This time Nick makes her check to see if Shannon is at the “studio” (she’s found another one for him to check). Nick stays in the car with Violet, who tries to make small talk by asking Nick his favorite color. He says he doesn’t have one. She explains that hers is green. He says it’s a pretty good color.
Dina returns to the car, says Shannon is inside. Moments later, the police show up.

Hospital conference room Laurie is explaining to Burton that Shannon is in pretty good shape. She was drugged, so she’s still groggy, but she wasn’t raped. Burton is relieved. Laurie says she’ll put him in touch with counselors for both of them later.
She says at first it’s important for Burton not to make Shannon feel like he’s angry with her for running away, to be kind, not judgmental, etc.

Just then the doors open and Shannon comes in. She rushes to Roy’s embrace. A slightly embarrassed Roy tells Shannon she has to go home with Burton for now.

Police station Scanlon is questioning Shannon about her experiences. Shannon claims to have no memory of the past two days. Burton gently tells her to tell the truth, at which Shannon rudely yells that she is. Burton has another dizzy spell, but doesn’t say anything.
Shannon leaves the room, and the detective explains to Burton that Dina refuses to talk, so without Shannon, they have little against Malcolm, who has made bail.

LSP, Lulu’s office Nick goes in to see Lulu. He asks if she’s free that evening, as he has a surprise for her.
Out in the main room, Alvin’s been trying to talk to Violet, who is very uncommunicative. Nick sits down near where she is drawing to give it a try. When he asks if she remembers him, Violet immediately brings up the topic of his lack of a favorite color. After they chat a moment, Nick says “violet.” Thinking he’s saying her name, she asks “What?” Nick replies, “Violet. That seems like a nice color.” She’s tickled with his answer and tells him to “Shut up!” grinning madly the while, as he gives her a million-watt smile in return.

Malcolm’s Nick and Burton meet up with Shannon and Roy. Nick and Shannon wait outside in the car as Burton follows Roy inside.
As they go in, Roy explains that he talked to Malcolm, asking why Malcolm paid the money, why he made the tape, and Malcolm lied to him about everything. As they walk further into the studio, Roy explains that finally he shot Malcolm twice out of guilt for what he’d let Malcolm do. Showing Burton the corpse, Roy states that after what Malcolm did, “I just couldn’t have it, sir, I just couldn’t have it.”<br>

LSP Alvin pokes his head in Nick’s door (Nick is working, Violet drawing) and says that the foster parents are there. Nick has a little talk with Violet, telling her that if there is anything she needs she is to call him. She looks at him solemnly and nods. Then he gives her a present, “for her new house.” It’s a deluxe box of crayons.
After Violet leaves, Nick apologizes to Lulu for canceling the night before, but asks if she’s free right now.

Nick explains that with all that’s been happening, it is very important to him that Lulu and the baby live somewhere safe. He says he’s giving the house to Lulu, with or without him, however she wants it to be. He just wants them to be safe.
Lulu is touched, and says that she wants him there, but not like this. She thinks they should work on the little things for now. She leans over and kisses him.
