Oh Man. I almost didn't stay awake long enough to see Simon. Letterman didn't bring him on until the very last minute and then very briefly.---Although Letterman was polite and asked the usual questions about the show, I had the impression that he was just doing his 'CBS duty', had never seen 'The Guardian,' and hadn't a clue about Simon's work as an actor. Simon was wearing all black---something that looked like a mock turtle-neck shirt, jacket, and close fitting trousers. He seemed a bit nervous and shy and, unfortunately, he had to follow some guy who is a comedian who never stopped talking and with whom Letterman seemed to have a very relaxed and comfortable friendship---a very hard act to follow. It was the first time I have heard SB 'speak Aussie' and I do love it when a guy talks like that! And we were treated to many shy, and blazing, Simon smiles.---The man is a really nice guy and beautiful besides.(and I don't mean Dave Letterman!)---cloud9

I had difficulty to stay awake also, cloud9, but made it to the end. I agree with you about the duration of the interview, it lasted about 5 or 6 minutes. It didn't seem Letterman was much interrested, and I'd wish that the Host would be more informed about a guest that is to appear on the show,...or at least pretend! Simon was wonderful, as always, and indeed shy but full of smiles!!!! While writing this down, I was waiting for Simon to appear on "The View" this morning, and oh what a difference! The ladies were very nice to Simon, and Barbara Walters made a great effort to make him comfortable. She asked many questions about his show, his family and his trip to Pittsburgh. Overall it was really pleasant and fun to watch. Simon, of course, looked beautiful and he had a better take on the moment. Very, very nice!

Oh yes, one more thing.........one of the ladies, Joy I think, started to smell his armpit again. :smash: (It's getting old). Simon said "geesh," and asked politely not to do that again. Barbara thanked him for being a good sport; asked him to come back again, and promised she'd make sure that 'Joy' would be sitting in the audience !!:biglaugh:

I had taped both the Letterman show and The View.
Did not care for the manner in which Letterman conducted the interview. You are right, it was as if he knew nothing of the show or Simon Baker's career. When Letterman made the statement to the effect that you are staring in a show "TG" and what are you guarding I knew Letterman was way out in left field.
SB as usual was funny, especially talking about his first trip to NY with his then girlfriend and 3 year old Stella. How his now wife told him on the plane that he could not dilly dally when ordering food and anything else. SB went on to tell the story of how hyped up he was with his wife's instructions and showed how he ordered a pastromi on rye and hold the mayo I was laughing and enjoying the interview. He further stated the watching of the people on the street corners that play the games with the pea in the shell or with cards and how they became so wraped up in what was happening and how his wife won some money.
When on The View and they were talking about swearing, and he stated that his daughter Stella was the swearing police in their home and showed the face she would make at him when he swore was very telling. SB is excellent at saying so much with facial expressions and movements. Bet there is never a dull moment in their house.
Barbara Walters was very good at the interview and it appeared that all were having a good time. Hope Joy does sit in the lobby next time.

I have noticed that swearing seems to come very easily to Aussie stars - Russel Crowe, Hugh Jackman among some.
Perhaps the f____ word and others are just part of their vocabulary. Interesting.
I will re-watch the tape and listen for his comment. I must have missed it or did not hear it correctly. Thanks for the info.

I have noticed that swearing seems to come very easily to Aussie stars - Russel Crowe, Hugh Jackman among some. At first I was taken aback by it,..... I wasn't prepared for it. Esspecially; in the very first interviews (in 2001)with Simon Baker, I came upon many f...:cussing: words including answers! I was surprised, I think, because he was so shy and adorable, you just didn't think.......... It must be really an "Aussie" thing!!. I think that maybe Stella will tone him down abit,:smash:....maybe? :biglaugh::biglaugh:

Bakergirl
I have a friend who spent time in Australia and I will ask her if swearing is very common and therefore a part of their life style.
Will let you know her answer.
You are right - I think his daughter has him twisted around her little finger. Will be interesting to see how he acts with his sons when they are old enough to travel with him.
