Nick arrives at the conference room where Mitchell and the senator are waiting. The senator asks him to come in and have a seat. Nick pointedly remains standing. The senator explains that he has rethought things, and that he spoke with the other partners the night before, and they want to offer Nick a full equity partnership. Nick smiles sardonically, and simply says “No thanks,” turns, and walks out.
Mitchell comes running after him, telling Nick that he doesn’t want to make this mistake—that he, Mitchell can make things very difficult for Burton if Nick insists on acting like this (leaving).

Lulu and Nick are in the conference room at LSP. She is explaining to Nick that, as he was aware, the whole wedding thing was turning into a monster. She and Brian were fighting, she and Brian’s mother were fighting over every detail, and she had confessed her “slip” to Brian, not naming names, and he was understandably very angry. (At this moment Nick looks ready to spill the beans on Brian’s own little “slip”) She then goes on to tell Nick that as a result, they decided to call the wedding off.
Nick says “Good. That’s good.”
Lulu answers “No, we called off the big wedding. We flew to Atlantic City and got married.”
Clearly in shock, Nick can only murmur “Okay.” As he stands there stunned, Lulu turns and leaves the conference room. Nick watches her walk away through the glass door, pain evident all over his gorgeous face.

Right before we see the scene with Nick and Lulu, we see Nick and Jake meeting at the Incline, where they discuss how their plans are progressing--office space they've lined up, who's agreed to join them, what clients they'll be bringing, etc. They agree it's time to strike.

There's a court hearing where permanent custody of Hunter is given to his grandparents. Afterwards, Nick tells Hunter how sorry he is, how he should have realized that Hunter belonged with his grandparents, that his father wasn't ready for this, and that it's working out for the best. Hunter doesn't say a word, just walks away.

Nick shows up at Burton’s going away party. He and Burton go in private to talk. Nick tells him that he knows that Caldwell pulled some strings to get Burton his seat on the bench. Burton is upset that Nick thinks he wasn’t able to get the position on his own. Nick says that regardless, Lichtman knows something that he can use against Burton.
After Nick leaves, Caldwell wants to know what the discussion was about. Caldwell then tells him that Lichtman saw everything that came through his Senate office, so Lichtman knows. Caldwell complains that the deal was for partnership in a successful firm—if Nick leaves the firm, the clients will go with him. Burton tells him that he always intended for Nick to have his clients. Caldwell says “We need Nick.” Burton tells him that his son was never part of the deal.

Back at home, Nick starts to unlock the door. Mandy comes up behind him, and complains about him canceling his credit card (the detective had come to the office to tell Nick that Mandy had charged a motel room on his credit card the night before and asked if Nick had a good time doing her. Nick replies that she stole the credit card, because he keeps duplicates of all his credit cards in his car). She then tells him that she’s decided he’s right, and that she should go to the police.
He tells her to go then. She says she can’t, she’s too high. She decided if she was going to jail, she better score some drugs first, cause she wouldn’t get any in jail. She tells Nick she needs to shower and freshen up. He tells her she can use the shower upstairs.
They go in, and he takes her to the bathroom. While she starts disrobing (hussy that she is), Nick is taking things out of the medicine cabinet (I don’t know what) and wrapping them in a towel. As she gets ready to take off her bra, he leaves, taking the bundle in the towel with him. Outside the door, he listens for the water to start running. Then he picks up the phone in the hallway and tries to get hold of the detective. Mandy comes out of the bathroom shrieking at him and attacks him. She then heads down the stairs, with Nick running after her.
She opens the front door, but Nick grabs her and pulls her back in. They struggle, and she gets away from him, only to fall two steps down into the living room. She’s knocked out. Nick feels for a pulse in her neck, and immediately starts calling 911. He tells them there’s a woman unconscious in his apartment, he thinks her heart’s stopped. He tells them he’s feeling for a pulse, but there’s no pulse.

The Burton/Caldwell scene was just heartless... I hated Caldwell, and I'll never like him... and Burton redeemed himself (from my point of view) regarding Nick. Great Job Gin... but you know that

At that moment, Burton knocks on the door and calls out. Shocked, Nick hangs up the phone. He rushes to the door, clearly distressed, and tells Burton that he can’t be here, he has to leave. Burton, apparently thinking Nick is angry with him, says “Nick, I’ve got to tell you something.” Nick asks if it can’t wait, but Burton says no, he has to tell Nick now.
He tells him that when Nick was arrested, “well, things weren’t looking too good son.” The DA wouldn’t plea bargain, and in fact wanted Nick to spend a minimum of 5 years in prison. So Burton made a deal with Caldwell, promising him a partnership. Unfortunately, that “kid” (Burton’s word!) Lichtman knows about it, and has kept records. If it gets out, well, it can hurt both Nick and Burton.
Nick says, ok, you’ve told me, now you’ve GOT to leave. Burton leaves.
Nick closes the door, and immediately starts dialing the phone. He gets Burton’s answering machine (or voicemail) and leaves a message. He tells him “I’m sorry, so sorry about everything. I came back because I wanted to work with you, because I respected you, and because I wanted to spend more time with you. And now it seems I’ve done what I always do, and, well, I just wanted to tell you I love you, and how sorry I am about everything.”
He clicks the phone off, and the scene closes with him sitting on the stairs in tears, obviously fearing the worst. We hear sirens approaching in the background.

So the 65% of pollsters who wanted to see Nick cry are very happy tonight...
Thanks for that, Gin!

What's the problem, exactly ? If you have an IRC client, you can connect to server chat.planetz.net .. port 7000. Then join #TheGuardian. (just type "/server chat.planetz.net:7000" .. then "/join #TheGuardian") or you can just click here : www.nickfallin.com/temp/chat.html
