FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK FOR
THE RING/ THE RING TWO BY ACADEMY AWARD®-WINNING COMPOSER HANS ZIMMER,
HENNING LOHNER AND MARTIN TILLMAN
THE RING TWO SCORE ALSO INCLUDES ZIMMER’S NEVER BEFORE RELEASED SOUNDTRACK FROM THE RING
**OUT ON DECCA MARCH 15, 2005**
(February 28, 2005- New York, NY) -- DreamWorks Pictures presents The Ring Two, the sequel to the 2002 horror hit The Ring. This marks the American directorial debut for Hideo Nakata who directed the original Japanese blockbuster Ringu from which The Ring was based. Music for the soundtrack was composed and conducted by Academy Award®-winner Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Last Samurai), Henning Lohner and Martin Tillman. Since Zimmer’s score for The Ring was never released to the public, it seemed fitting to include it with music from The Ring Two on one album which comes out March 15th on Decca.
German born Zimmer has been nominated and won several awards making him one of Hollywood’s most sought after composers. In 1988 he earned an Oscar® nomination for Rain Man and was nominated for a Grammy® in 1989 for Driving Miss Daisy. He garnered his first Academy Award® in 1994 for The Lion King and in 1995 Zimmer earned a Grammy® for his work on Crimson Tide, which was honored as Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture. His score for Gladiator won him a Golden Globe® for Best Original Score in 2000 and the Broadcast Film Critic's Best Original Score award in 2001. More recently he has composed scores for numerous films including: The Last Samurai, King Arthur and Spanglish- for which he received another Golden Globe® nomination.
Together Zimmer, Lohner and Tillman have created some of the most powerful and bone-chilling film music of recent years. Delving deeper into the supernatural more than the usual horror film soundtrack, this score executes the terror build-up precisely with the use of piano, violin, synthesizer and dueling cellos played by Martin Tillman and Anthony Pleeth. This urban legend comes to life exposing raw emotion by brewing up a sense of mystery, horror and helplessness for the moviegoer.
Academy Award® nominee Naomi Watts (21 Grams) reprises the role of investigative reporter Rachel Keller in The Ring Two. The story picks up six months after the horrifying events that terrorized Keller and her son Aidan (David Dorfman – The Ring) in Seattle. To escape her haunting memories, Rachel takes Aidan and moves to the small coastal community of Astoria, Oregon, to start fresh. However, Rachel's resolve quickly turns to dread when evidence at a local crime scene-including an unmarked videotape-seems eerily familiar. Rachel realizes that the vengeful Samara is back and more determined than ever to continue her relentless cycle of terror and death.
Joining Naomi Watts and David Dorfman in the cast are Simon Baker (TV's The Guardian), Elizabeth Perkins (Speak), Gary Cole (TV’s West Wing) and Academy Award®-winner Sissy Spacek (Coal Miner's Daughter, Carrie). The Ring Two opens in theaters nationwide on March 18th.
