It seems neither Nick nor Burton has ever met Jeremy before (I don't know why). So there was no way Nick could know it was his cousin.
Apparently Liz let Jeremy run around on the street for a bit while she took care of business, and he was supposed to meet her at the office.

Anyway, there's all sorts of deep legal stuff about Liz selling her company, but we're going to skip that for now--K?

So Liz invites Nick and Burton to join she and Jeremy for dinner. Before she leaves the office, she rather cryptically tells Nick that she hopes he and Jeremy can become close, as she thinks Jeremy could use someone like Nick in his life.
Nick says--"I think my dad would be better for him," but Liz comes back with, "No, you're what he needs."

I think Jeremy is more like 15--he doesn't know how to drive yet.
I'll be upfront with you--I don't remember what is going on at LSoP during this ep, so we'll just have to skip it for now.
After they leave, Nick discovers that his palm pilot is missing, Jake discovers he is missing $300, and one of the secretaries is missing something as well.
He goes to tell Burton, who says that he doesn't think that Liz needs to hear that right now, as she has just told him that she has cancer. Nick is appropriately shocked.

So they go to Liz's for dinner, where Jeremy proceeds to make a complete and total ASS of himself. He's obnoxious to everyone! Burton asks Jeremy to pass the wine, and Jeremy says something about "Sure, and I think I'll have some too!" and proceeds to fill his glass to the rim. Liz scolds him, and Jeremy makes some snide remark about her liking wine too much. She is upset, and Jeremy continues, saying how everyone in the family has their addictions--she likes wine, Nick's mom with her pills, and "everyone knows about cousin Nick and his zany hijinks." Burton says something to him (the famous, "would it be rude for me to call you a jerk" speech). Jeremy just rolls his eyes , and then tells Liz he needs a ride to a party.

Jeremy pushes the issue, Liz gets upset, and Nick suddenly says, "I'll drive you."
When the two of them are safely in Nick's lovely BMW, Nick confronts Jeremy about the stolen goods. Jeremy naturally denies it, but Nick knows better.

Burton says that in defense of Nick or something?! *gawks at the computer in disbelief* and if he does what was his reaction when Jeremy said that? I'm sorry the questions should come later... I'll go hide now... *wanders off pretending not to care...comes back and sits patiently*

The next day, Nick is sitting in the conference room at F&A (this is before the producers get the budget to actually build his office ;D), when Jeremy comes in to see him. Nick acknowledges his presence, but basically gives him the cold shoulder.
Without saying anything, Jeremy lays the stolen goods on the table next to Nick. Nick glances up at them, then continues writing.
Jeremy then tells Nick that he needs some help. He's in some trouble at school (boarding school, like the one Nick attended). It seems that there are these guys at another school who are book makers, and Jeremy acts as their representative at his school.
This one kid had placed a large bet with him, lost, and refused to pay up. When Jeremy tried to collect, the kid turned him in to the school authorities, and Jeremy was kicked out (he hasn't told Liz yet!).
