Next we see Nick talking to Dr. Reed in jail. He needs Dr. Reed to sign something acknowledging Hunter's guardianship/shelter hearing. Dr Reed seems just very out of it, acting weird and confuzzled about where he is, and why he's in here. :uhoh2: So Nick manages to dig up some stuff about Dr Reed's past, with the help of one of his contacts in the precinct (??) and Amanda. Mostly about his psychiatrist record, and several law suits involving Dr. Reed. Nick then heads over to Dr Reed's psychiatrist, but he refuses to speak to Nick. Then Nick & Jake arrive at at old warehouse to speak to Netburgh (who are actually a couple of 19 year old kids, hehe) Nick hands over the new offer from SwanTech (which is basically half the original amount offered by SwanTech). Netburgh is not happy. Nick explains this is how business is done.

Nick asks Laurie to accompany him to the Reed house (gotta have someone from Social Services) because Hunter wants more clothes. Once Nick gets there, he does a little snooping in the bathroom, and finds two bottles of pills in the bathroom, and sticks them in his pocket.
Later he does a little searching online, about the Dr. Reed's medication, and turns out that one of them is still unapproved and going through a clinical trial. He asks Dr. Reed's psychiatrist about this, and the psychiatrist admits that he enrolled Dr. Reed in a clinical trial for Nendurathol, although the old drug Fluphenazine hadn't cleared his system yet. Then the guy admits that the drugs could have counter-acted each other.
Nick goes back to visit Dr. Reed in jail, and tells him he knows about the schizophrenia, the drug trials, the law suits. Nick advises Dr. Reed to talk to his lawyer about his psychiatric history, so that he might win the murder trial on an insanity defence. Nick also advises him to threaten to kill himself while in jail, because the law states that a suicidal inmate has to be transferred to a psychiatric facility .. which will reveal Dr Reed's psychiatric record, and buy them a little time for the trial.
Next, Nick comes into CLS to talk to Alvin. Alvin is somewhat pissed off about Nick getting involved in the case, instead of just taking care of Hunter's guardianship ... :cussing:
To be continued ..

Back at F&A Nick is talking to Jake and Amanda, about the money they could make from the Reed case. (suing the doctor for malpractice and the pharmaceutical company for product liability) Nick & Jake plan on sharing this case, although Nick can't exactly do much work on it, because he is Hunter's guardian (conflict of interest). Then Burton comes in looking a little grim, and tells Nick that SwanTech is threatening to pull out altogether. So Nick goes to see one of the Netburgh kids at his home. The kid still isn't happy about the offer, but they do reach a compromise eventually (a little more than SwanTech's latest offer) Everyone is happy, and the kid's mother hugs Nick & kisses him on the cheek, twice!! --

Later at Alleghany Children's Shelter, Nick is talking to Hunter, and explaining what's wrong with his dad, what schizophrenia is like, stuff like that. Hunter wants to go back to live with his dad, when his dad gets better, but Nick explains that it's not that simple.
Next, we see Nick working at F&A, late at night, and Amanda is helping out (sort of). Nick gets a phonecall from James, who tells him that Dr. Reed has threatened to kill himself while in jail. :guns:
Next day, at the court house -- Hunter's guardianship hearing. Social Services recommends that Hunter live with his grandparents, and all is well .. until Nick stands up and asks that the grandparents' guardianship be represented as "temporary" so that Hunter still has a chance to be with his father. The judge finally agrees to this .. :grinyes:

Meeting with SwanTech at F&A. Mr Swann (??) isn't very happy about the deal that Nick has made with Netburgh, saying he had no right to make a deal like this. Nick handles it pretty well, and even manages to get away with a comment about Mr Swann's ego, hehe. ("You're passing up this great deal all for the sake of your enormous ego" -- "My ego ?? My ego ?!") So Swann eventually signs the contract, and everyone walks out happy. Burton calls Nick to his office once again, and Nick apologizes, knowing that was a little uhh .. unconventional. But Burton says that they got the deal, and this is no time to be apologizing ..

Then Nick & Hunter drive over to South Western Psychiatric. Nick goes in to talk to Dr. Reed. They talk about Hunter, and Nick tells Dr Reed that Hunter still wants to live with him. Dr. Reed says that he loves his son, but he can't possibly be a father to him anymore. *sniffle* Nick says he's not giving up (or something like that) .. :uhoh2: Then Nick comes back out, and tells Hunter that his father isn't ready yet. He just needs a little time. Hunter looks crushed, but Nick is already on his way back to his car. He stops and asks Hunter if he's ok, Hunter says "no". Then Hunter sort of leans his head against Nick, and Nick looks very awkward with it .. but eventually puts an arm around Little Hunter. (Aww) .. :bawling: The End
