Out in the hall, Gretchen approaches Nick and asks if he’s seen Jake. Nick says no. She explains that the guys are there from Jupiter Golf, and Jake is nowhere to be found. She’s tried his cell phone and his apartment, but no answer.
Nick goes into the conference room and starts talking to the men from Jupiter Golf, essentially winging it.

A bit later Nick escorts the men from Jupiter Golf to the door. As they leave Nick says he doesn’t know if he can make the outing at Oakmont, as he has a wedding to go to, but he’ll try. They ask his handicap, and he replies “Um, six.” They’re pleased and tell him with that handicap he won’t be playing with them but with the pros. He says again that he doesn’t know if he can get out of the wedding.
Once they’re gone he asks Gretchen if she’s found Jake yet, but she says no.

Before he leaves she asks what Burton said about the adoption day. Nick says that Burton wants to have lunch with her some time.

I believe a low number is, Spunky. But I also think Nick just picked a number out of the air--he looked a wee bit surprised when they said that was pro level, and he was very quick to remind them that he might not be able to make it!

Jake’s apartment, 7 am next day Nick goes up and knocks on the door. This time Jake answers. He looks embarrassed to see Nick, but he asks why Nick is there. Nick asks Jake if he’s okay, saying “Hey, you are how you are, who cares?” Jake becomes angry at this, says he’s not gay, that Nick doesn’t know anything about him.
Nick shrugs and says that they close on the Jupiter deal at 10.

F&F Nick arrives to find Lulu sitting in his office. Without a greeting, she starts explaining that her daddy did some things that are hard to explain. She says that when she was in high school she was a cheerleader and that she had a boyfriend who was a football player. During football games she would look up into the stands and see her father sitting there watching her. She also says that he would leave her notes telling her what a whore she was.
One day she and her boyfriend were walking home, just holding hands, and her dad showed up in his pickup . . . , and it was horrible. (she doesn’t finish)
Throughout it all, Nick looks pained.
