When she gets back to her office, Lulu finds her father waiting for her. He tells her he wants to start a painting business. When she asks if he means house painting, he says no, schools and bigger buildings like that. And he wants her to join him, be a partner. He points out that as she’s a woman, they would then qualify for contracts as a minority business.

Courthouse, Judge Damsen’s court Judge Damsen is listening to both sides of the Fuller/Aikens case. The mother, Tina Fuller, and her second husband, want to move to Boston and take Evan with them. Pete Aikens, the boy’s father, doesn’t want them to. During the whole case, Aikens keeps trying to make Nick show Damsen the Father’s Day card, but he doesn’t. After consideration, Judge Damsen rules that it is in the boy’s best interest for them to go to Boston. She also rules that Aikens will have two weeks visitation in the summer as well as some holidays. Aikens is upset at this.
Out in the hallway, he tells Nick that he sucks, blaming it on Nick because he didn’t show the card. Nick tells him that the card wouldn’t have made a damn bit of difference, but Aikens walks away yelling, telling Nick that he’s cost him everything.
Alvin happens to be nearby, and as Nick walks away, Alvin makes the comment that “men are the new women.” When Nick asks what he means, Alvin explains that while women used to always come out on the short end of situations, now it is the men.

True, Spunky, but they're referring to the fact that until relatively recently, few women owned businesses, and therefore they qualify for some special perks.

F&F Jakes’ mother comes by to see him. She’s smartened herself up, and when he compliments her on how much better she seems, she tells him that she’s made peace.

Nicks’ house, dinner Lulu is bringing dinner to the table, Nick is seated. Lulu brings over a bottle of wine, but before pouring some into her glass, asks Nick if it will make him uncomfortable. She explains that she usually has a glass with dinner. He tells her it won’t bother him at all.
Lulu tells him about her father’s plans for a painting business, and explains that he wants her to invest. She asks Nick what he thinks, and he’s noncommittal. When she pushes him for a real opinion, he looks her in the eye and says “Don’t do it.”<br>

Jakes’ mother’s house Jakes’ mother is still in a great mood. She’s made lasagna and urges him to eat up. Jake laughs, says he doesn’t eat as much of it as he used to, as it will make him fat. When she sits down with him to eat, she asks him how that nice Polish girl, his girlfriend is doing. Jake explains that Barbara has gotten married. His mother says that’s okay, that there has got to be a lot of others out there for a nice handsome and successful attorney like him. Jake just smiles weakly. Then she says that she doesn’t really know him as an adult, and that she really wants to get to know him, explaining that no matter what, she’ll always love him.

Lulu’s house As Lulu enters the house, her father is standing at the front window. He comments on what a fancy car Nick drives, saying he saw it out the window. Lulu replies that it’s just a BMW. He also comments on what a sharp dresser Nick is, saying how he noticed that first off. As Lulu starts to head upstairs, he tells her to be careful of people with fancy clothes, as they’re selfish. As she quickly heads upstairs, he reminds her that she and Nick are supposed to have dinner with him tonight.

Jake’s mother’s house Jake asks his mother what she has planned for today, and she replies that she is going to mass. He tells her that he has some papers for her to sign, stating that she isn’t contesting the divorce. When this depresses her, he offers to bring home some movies tonight and some ice cream so they can just veg out in front of the TV together. She tells him he doesn’t’ have to do that, she’ll be okay.
