LSP Nick comes into the office, and is greeted by Lulu, who asks to speak to him a moment. She asks a boy she’s been talking to to wait out in the lobby for a moment, and takes Nick into her office. She explains that the boy is Ted Huberty, and that his father shot three co-workers before turning the gun on himself. When Nick says “He doesn’t know?” she nods.

LSP conference room Nick and Lulu have Ted in the conference room explaining that someone from social services would like to talk to him. Ted wants to know what’s going on, but they won’t say anything until Suzanne Pell and Ted’s coach (of what I don’t know), Coach Bernardo, arrive. Once they’re there, Suzanne starts to explain to Ted what’s happened with his father.

Kane Industries Burton goes over, as they are clients. He talks with the receptionist, who is very upset. She describes how Huberty came in and opened fire during the morning meeting, shooting Mr. Kane 3 times in the face point-blank.
After consoling her, Burton looks around, looking through the broken, blood-spattered glass into the board room where it happened, and where the crime scene investigators are hard at work.

From there, Burton goes to talk to Eric Kane, the son of the company founder. Eric was in the board room when the shooting took place, and is clearly in shock. His shirt is spattered with blood.
Eric’s first concern is to ask Burton how he’s doing, how he’s feeling after his surgery, etc. Burton offers his condolences and says if they need any help with arrangements he will do what he can.

Eric brushes it all aside, saying he wants to continue working on the Palomar deal. Burton is surprised at this, especially when Eric starts talking about Burton helping him have the board appoint him CEO.
Before Burton can say much, the receptionist interrupts, bringing in a trauma specialist to talk with Eric. Eric says he doesn’t have time right now for that, he’ll reschedule when he does have time.

Nick is infuriated when the psychologist asks if Ted feels like attacking people, and Suzanne has to pull him outside to talk for a few minutes. She explains that they have to ask these questions in order to help them place Ted in a shelter for now.
Nick says that Ted doesn’t need this sort of thing right now, what he needs is his mother. Suzanne says that Ted’s mother is Ted, and she doesn’t know yet if he has any other family.
Lulu sees Nick and Suzanne through her office door window.

As the psychologist leaves, Suzanne explains to Ted that he has to stay in a shelter, at least for a few days (he wants to stay with his coach), and that they’ll go by his house to pick up some of his things. Ted asks Nick if he’ll go too. Nick agrees, and Lulu watches as the three of them head to the elevator.

Huberty house Outside the house is overrun with reporters, who immediately close in on Ted with questions. Nick quickly ushers Ted into the house and they close the shades to keep out the prying eyes. As Suzanne helps Ted get some things together, Nick looks around the living room, noting a large puzzle almost completed on a table.

Nick is concerned and asks Burton if he’s rushing back to work too soon, but Burton says that the doctor told him he could. Nick points out that the doctor said he could go back part-time.

Lulu smiles, and tells Nick that she has another appointment with the doctor this Friday for another ultrasound and some more tests, and does he want to come. He says of course.
