Shelter Nick and Suzanne go to pick up Ted who is being kicked out of that shelter for fighting. Ted explains that another kid spit on him and said things about his father. Nick warns Ted that if it happens again he will be sent to juvie. Ted just keeps repeating that he didn’t start it.

Nick’s house, early morning Nick is heading for the gym. Lulu wakes up, asks him what time he got in last night. He answers “Late.” She asks him why he doesn’t skip the gym and try to get some more sleep, but he just tells her “I don’t sleep much Lulu.”<br>

Coach Bernardo’s house Nick goes to talk to the coach about taking Ted in. The coach explains that he has a thirteen year old son of his own, and he doesn’t want to subject his son to all the media surrounding this at the moment.

Kane Wake Nick and Burton are at the wake. Burton asks Nick if he remembered to send flowers, to which Nick replies yes. Eric comes over and asks Nick about Ted, acting concerned, before asking “Is his dad dead yet?”<br> Eric then takes Burton aside and informs him that he met with the other company and finished the deal. Burton is alarmed, as Eric is not CEO and therefore doesn’t have the authority to do so.

Shelter Nick and Suzanne have gone to talk to Ted, who first off asks if they’ve talked to the coach. Nick ignores the question, as he has bad news for Ted—his dad died an hour ago. Nick explains that they can arrange a funeral if Ted wants it, but they don’t have to rush it. Ted says he wants to sleep.

Restaurant Burton and Jake are having dinner at a restaurant. Jake tells Burton that he’ll support Nick as managing partner, but he wants 50% of the revenue from the two new clients he’s brought in. Burton agrees.

At another table, Nick and Suzanne have just finished dinner. Suzanne thanks Nick for bringing her here, saying that while she certainly likes sex, she was starting to think . . .
As she kisses him, Burton walks by and sees all.

Burton’s house Nick stops by to talk to his father. Burton is sitting there, drinking scotch, when Nick enters. He starts off by telling Nick that Nick doesn’t owe him an explanation. He says that Nick is what he is, and goes on to point out that Nick has a girl at home pregnant, he’s on probation . . .
Nick strikes back, telling his father he doesn’t know him.

Burton says he does, and that Nick is selfish, he wants what he wants when he wants it, and is acting like a child. He says that if Nick is going to act like a child, he’s going to treat him like a child. “You can’t drink, you can’t do drugs, and you can’t lie to the people who love you anymore!”

Nick’s house Nick can’t sleep, and so he wakes Lulu (just calls out her name). She turns to him, and Nick confesses that he’s been drinking a little again. Lulu asks him if he’s done drugs again. Nick doesn’t really answer that, but says that there’s been someone else. Lulu, looking pained, asks “Suzanne Pell?” Lulu tearfully asks why, but all Nick can say is “I don’t know.”<br>

Nick turns to Lulu and points out that he asked her to marry him and “you just looked at me like I was insulting you.”
Lulu can only ask “Why are you doing this?” to which Nick again replies “I don’t know.”<br>

But he looks her in the eyes and says “I want to marry you, be a good father to out baby, to be a family” but points out that as things are, she can just leave, take the baby with her, and even tell the probation board that he’s doing drugs so that he can’t see the child.
But all Lulu can say is “So you screw Suzanne Pell?” With this she gets up and leaves the stricken Nick lying in the bed.

F&F Burton has to tell Eric Kane that the board has decided not to make him CEO. At this, it’s like a dam bursts in Eric—he confesses that at the time of the shooting he hid under the table.

Nick goes into his father’s office. Nick explains that last night was a mistake. He says he realizes Burton has gone out on a limb for him on the managing partner thing, but he wants Burton to know he won’t let him down.
Burton grimly informs Nick that he’s changed his mind, that he will no longer support Nick for managing partner.
