This a message for mb20:
I was wondering why the times messages were posted has been deleted as a feature. Ever since I became a member that feature has disappeared. It helps me know whether I have already read the message. Also, I was wondering if there was a way to check spelling. Thanks. What a great opportunity to hash out thoughts, and gather others' insights on the characters and episodes. Bravo, mb20!!

Seems we all have our idea as to whom will be shot next week.
I am wondering about Alvin. If I remember correctly, it seems I either read or heard that he was not real happy with his role in TG. If this is correct, then perhaps it is Alvin who is shot and that would leave Nick and Lulu in a bad situation as Lulu would now have to carry on and "run" LSoP and Lulu would be Nick's boss when working for LSop.
That scenario could lead to all types of frustration on both parties, much closer contact, would have to "speak" to each other, and would of course make for closer working conditions.
Unless James wants off the show, it does not make any sense to have him shot. Lulu being shot would throw Nick and her closer as he would spend time with her, but what would that do to the future and other scenarios would not produce. Also, with Lulu being shot it could mean that Brian would be brought back and then there could be lots of tension between the trio.
Nick getting shot would cause lots of emotion from BF. On the other hand, it would interfer with work schedules at LSoP and F&F. Of course there is the fanfiction that covered such a scenario and really brought out the relationship between BF and NF. That might be interesting for a couple of weeks, but really would not fit into the show that well.
From what little glimpses we see of each episode, one's mind could really wander and make for interesting thoughts between shows.

Trisha,
Actually, you can still see the times at which messages were posted. It's under the title of each message.
If you're talking about the info. on the main page ... yup, it's changed a bit. You can still see the time of the last post made ... and you know there are new posts in the forum if you see a little blue circle on the left of the forum title (on the main page). The only thing that's missing from the main page (I think) is the name of the last thread posted in. (Don't know why it's changed - this forum is hosted by proboards, not me)
Nope, no spell check, unfortunately.

Good discussion going here, gang. Sorry I've been out of touch. To Pittsburg poster re Nick's lack of accent: I've noticed that regional accents have been growing much less well defined in recent years. It's probably due to the facts that we hear a kind of basic 'accent-less' speech on tv and that folks are moving about the country more and more. Even in the south, say around Atlanta or in the Raleigh-Durham area of N.C., people have moved in from across the country so much that you hear all kinds of accents, other than the typical southern drawl, when you're out in public. Who knows where Nick went to boarding school at a young age, or a bit later, to college? Obviously he has been exposed to people from all over and possibly that influenced his speech. (And, BTW, what characteristics are peculiar to 'Pittsburgh speech'? I have never realized that people from there had any well recognizable accent.) And while I'm posting I want to welcome aboard the other newbies. It's great to have you all. --- ---cloud9

A note concerning the Pittsburgh accent: David Hollander said in an interview that Pittsburgh people have an accent and that he was not going to try to duplicate it. There might be some dialog lost because of its unclear tones. My husband's father was from Pittsburgh. The original family came to Pittsburgh because of the potato famine in Ireland. My husband's grandfather was first generation, married an Irish immigrant and had 6 children. They lived in the German part of Pitt and owned a neighborhood grocery store. Of the 6 children, one remained in Pitt, married and had 11 children. The children are all still alive and none have this so called Pitt accent. They have lived in Pitt for at least sixty to seventy-five years. I'd like to know if this accent is that pronounced. Did the Guardian Angels hear any differences on their recent visit?

To Pittsburg poster re Nick's lack of accent: (And, BTW, what characteristics are peculiar to 'Pittsburgh speech'? I have never realized that people from there had any well recognizable accent.) I'm sure I've read in one of the many interviews with David Hollander, that he was very pleased and impressed with Simon's none accent English. Also, Simon himself said, that he gets cheat sheets from DH every day so it be easier for him to pronounciate the American slang. DH said also, in one of the interviews, that the real Pittsburgh accent is ugly, and he won't have anyone speak it, unless it is authentic.

DH said also, in one of the interviews, that the real Pittsburgh accent is ugly, and he won't have anyone speak it, unless it is authentic. Even though I'm sure I've seen the above in some of the many interviews with David Hollander, I also know that I should have the quote at hand to back it up. I've gone back to many of the interviews but I can't seem to find it, and I am sincerely sorry because I should know better. Meanwhile; I did come across another one, here goes: The Guardian: The Pittsburgh Connention. Sunday, September 16,2001 By Rob Owen, Post-Gazette TV Editor "Though he doesn't affect a Pittsburgh accent for The Guardian, Baker is happy to demonstrate one for a visitor to his trailer." "Yinz go Dahntahn," he says, a big smile on his face." "It's a hard accent, and I don't want to butcher it," Hollander said. "I think it will be a long time before you hear that, unless I can get actors from Pittsburgh in the show." Sorry about the mix-up.

Very interesting information regarding Pittsburgh's accent. Wonder if over the years many of the "old" accents have not be "mutilated" and have either lost their accent or have created a new one.
I have known friends who have spoken correct German with their families and leave the home and speak excellent without a hint of the German accent.
Did enjoy the newspaper quote regarding Simon Baker's use of the Pittsburgh accent. Think I understood what he was saying.

Anyway, glad all of you could join us! Gin As being one of the few new members I was just wondering if there is a special person, or forum, one can turn to with questions or problems that might come up. I know there's the help button, but that doesn't always answer all the questions that appear some times. I have noticed by reading over all the board's postings, that mb20, Hales, and Gin have become great friends and always reply to one and others' messages quickly, even with problems they might have. But us new ones, are sort of maybe shy, and might need some more information. I know I do: # About the "Instant Messages"; I have send so far 4 instant messages to the administrator with some questions, no answer as of yet, and I think I might not do it correctly. When I look in the outbox the messages are still sitting in there, with the "To" box blank. Even though I have entered the name in that box. So, maybe someone would be so kind to explain the proper steps to take. # What is "Sesame Street", and why is it locked for members, and another password needed ? If it is a secret forum, why is it posted on the board; even with timely updates. I think this is a great site, with wonderful conversations and discussions, and I'm glad I've joined too! :paw:

bakergirl, You can post any questions or problems you might have in FORUM NEWS/HELP/REQUESTS. That's what it's there for. As for the private messages, send them to username " admin" and not " mb20". Sesame Street can be accessed by certain members only. Glad you like the site.

I don't know. I've lived near Pittsburgh my whole life (I live in Ohio, but I have family very close to Pitts) and I don't recognize an accent. We all sound just like my sister-in-law who's from Wisconsin and just like the people on the Guardian.

Bakergirl,
You can also address questions to me, and if I can't answer them, I'll make sure they get to someone who can.

Hi everyone. I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Shannon and I've been lurking for a while. I thought it was time to de-lurk. I guess I should explain my signature too....I went to college with Wendy Moniz and was in the same theater program, but she was 2 years ahead of me. I was even a backstage costume mistress for a show she was in but she wouldn't know me if she tripped over me on the street. Oh well. She was nice enough but she kept to herself. She wasn't in our rag tag group of theater people that "lived" at the theater. Still it's way cool to see alumni make it big and be able to say that I knew her. I only started watching The Guardian because she was on it, but I really like the show! It doesn't hurt that Simon Baker is a TOTAL HOTTIE. Nothing against Guiding Light or Nash Bridges, but I'm happy to see Wendy get a real juicy part that she can truly flourish in. She's a great actress. I look forward to joining in on the discussion when I can. It's hard with a 2yo daughter running around (and running the house, LOL!)
