Guess who's Assuming the Position....
Not Mrs. Olsen that's for sure! (Didn't figure Lulu as the change-your-name-after- marriage type.) Well, at least the truth is finally out and with it we discover that Brian is worse than anyone suspected. What I want to know is just how long has Lulu been sitting on this information? From Brian's complaints about the lack of sex it could be that she has known for sometime. Which begs the question: Why would she wait for so long before confronting him? Sex with prostitutes?? I hope by telling Brian that he shouldn't leave that she meant that she was going to be the one to split. I hope she isn't thinking that the two of them can work it out. What will really be interesting is how she reacts to Nick. Obviously she'll be embarrassed, but will she be mad that Nick didn't tell her, or will she respect him for not using this info to his advantage to try and put a stop to the marriage. I think Nick will come out the winner in this one!
Alvin and a prostitute....this was kind of out of left field! Very nice of him to pursue Laurie while having this ongoing relationship with a prostitute! How naive of him to think that he wasn't paying for "services rendered" in some way, even if it wasn't with money. And he didn't look too happy about Lulu taking over his seat on the board. It looks like there could be some tension in the future between these two.
Jake & Barbara....poor, pathetic Jake had his but kicked in court and on the street by some punk kid! Too bad that the only way he could restore his pride was by beating the kid up. Although we didn't see whether Barbara accepted Jake's offer to meet for drinks, I'm wondering if anyone cares? Does anyone really want to see Jake with her, or with any woman for that matter. Hollander would be wise to only use Jake in legal plot lines. There just isn't room for another relationship storyline.
And then there's Nick....I almost forgot about him. He wasn't really a big part of this episode. He did have an interesting case with the kid and the lead poisoning, but his storyline really was in the background this week. Nice to be reminded that Nick has a good heart. His visiting the kid at the end was great. I guess the fact that the kid was made motherless really hit home with him. This episode had a lot going on (maybe too much) and I hope in the next episode Hollander puts Nick back front and centre!
I'm curious about what people think of this "new" Nick. Hollander said that this season he was going to let the character "breathe a little". The stuff with Kim was a debacle (and fan reaction seems to have been mostly negative to that). Then there's Nick being a little more chummy with people. I'm not sure if I like this. The opening scene with Nick and Jake trading cheesy puns regarding Alvin's situation was kind of funny, but it seems out of character (in comparison to the season one portrayal). I kind of miss the Nick who glared at people and walked out on them without answering their questions!! Maybe I'm just not used to seeing Nick smile that much!
Overall, just an average episode, because the Guardian was MIA.
