My guess, without having seen Chinese Wall, is that he realizes that Burton has brought the Senator in to take over the firm. Just last week Burton was telling Nick he wanted him to take over, so naturally Nick feels threatened.
However, there may be additional things we don't know about yet, but this is the surface impression.
