(I dont know if there´s already a thread with this subject, sorry.... ) I watched "the affair of the necklace" yesterday, and I may be milding with age, because I liked Simon a lot in that movie. I thought I would hate his hair (I HATE the way he looks in "Riding with the devil"), clothes and the rest, but I did like him. I found his character to be sort of sad, vulnerable, cute and fun...: he plays that "slightly exagerated" (is that an oximoron, or another linguistic figure? ) gigolo and it fits him like a glove. And I think it´s part of the fun to see Simon calling "Nicholas" another guy. In general I liked the movie pretty much. I´ll probably watch it again, what I dont usually do with Simon´s movies. In spite of the hairdos he looks cute most of the times. He doesnt match Alain Delon in "la tulipe noir" (what is a must in french revolution-cute guys movies), but who can match A. Delon in his thirties?.... I´m liking Simon much more lately. Now, I´m looking forward for this new movie. And I watched "the ring"!...so I´m ready for this one too!

Cec, Never apologize for your English. You do a great job posting and writing fan fiction. I just watched 'The Ring' for the first time. I think it will be interesting to watch Simon in a Horror movie. I'm glad he is choosing a movie that will show his acting talent not being hired for a B rated skin flick, with no substance. Not that The Ring has much of a story line such as Beautiful Mind(Russell Crowe) or Road To Prudition(Tom Hanks). There are so many to mention. I would like to see him as a supporting actor with one of these top actors. Their scripts are superior and will do well at the box office. This will get Simon's acting talent good recognition and respect. JMO fourbeccaone

fourbe, I think the problem with that movie is the leading actress. Actually, Simon did a good move making it. The character fits him, he doesnt look at all like the other guys he´s made...I dont know if "the affair..." was shot right after HS won the oscar (I guess so), but producers might´ve believed she´d make a success of it. She is a fine actress and a pretty woman, but she is not a "star" in the box office department of stardom (it´s mo). The rest of the cast if good and the parts are great. The fact that it´s based on a true story makes it better, the costumes and sets are terrific...This movie with another girl (I couldnt say who...) could´ve made much better and it could´ve been a big push (?) for Simon´s career. Of course is not as fun as "the three musketeers" (I´m not sure about the spelling), but fiction give the author a chance to go over the edge in order to create suspense, or drama; but it´s a good movie with good players. After watching Simon in "red planet" or "judas´s kiss" I´d say this is Simon moving on... It´s worth the time.

And I think you are right about Simon choosing other kind of scripts or cast (even when the cast in "ride with..." was pretty fine. But maybe too young by then.). I dont think he can be the lead character of a movie, or drag a story by himself; or he might, doing something like a hotshot lawyer with a drug problem.... ).... ;D kidding! I mean, besides Nick, where he has accomplished perfection, I dont know what is Simon able to do and keep the attention of the audience for almost two hours. But he can be a terrific supporting actor if he has the right lines and he is not making accents. I havent seen those movies you mention. R. Crowe and T.Hanks, as good as they are, well....I dont find them interesting enough!....and after watching the biography of the math-guy from "beautiful..." I didnt feel as watching it (and it´s been in cable this month like twice a week). I should, I guess.... And they are good, but I felt the Oscar´s people got nuts over them...; I think they are sort of overrated so I´m doing my own solitaire protest against those awarded actors. Anyway, either Simon is growing up or I´m milding, but I do feel like watching his next movies now.
