sorry for the delay everyone
Here we go......lots of action:)
this is a continuation of last weeks's ep. It opens wiht a recap of the last scene of last week's ep first opening with shot of the meeting room where James and Nick are having that conversation. It then cuts to Lulu heading for the elevator, on the way Alvin asks her what time her flight is leaving she gets in and the camera pans over from behind Lulu seeing Nick trying to catch up before the elevator closes. The elevator opens to the ground floor where the taxi keeps honking. Lulu yells out to the cab driver that she's comming. A man gets on the elevator carrying a giant stuffed bear it opens to the LSP offices where Nick and the lady carrying a smaller stuffed bear. Nick is desperate to get to talk to Lulu leaving two messages on Lulu's voice mail on the way to court telling her to call him before she gets on the plane . Along the way, the man with him comments on how he can smell Lulu's perfume in the elevator.
In court, in the midddle of the hearing, Nick's cell phone vibrates, it's Lulu. They start having an argument. Everyone: the defendant, plaintiff's lawyer and judge try to get him off the phone--its unprofessional. Nick will have none of it and continues on to talk on the phone. Nick finally snaps, smashes his cell and is held in contempt and ordered to undergo 3 sessions of therapy.
Nick, in his first therapy session is uncooperative, the therapist immediately knows his type prodds on but finally decides otherwise. He gives Nick a book with questions to answer. Nick leaves.
Later that night James visits Talliek(sp?). He confesses that he was the one who beat him up. You can tell he's been guilt ridden ever since finding out about the truth. He promises to do all he can to get Talliek's son back.

Later that night, there is a party at Shannen's house Burton is an odd ball in a sea of teen aged girls. The doorbell rings-it's Nick carrying the same gift he tried to give Shannon as a piece offering from the day before. Burton is somewhat relieved that Nick dropped by and asks him if he could stay. Nick tries to greet Shannon happy birthday who sees him but refuses to acknowledge him. Burton tries to convince him to stay a bit but Nick gets out of it claiming that he's got some things to do but not before he reminds Nick about the a Charity Symphony he, Shannon, Nick and Lulu had talked about going. After Nick leave the doorbell rings again but this time it's Shannon's father at the door. Burton is at a lost and Shannon doesn't recognize him. Next day at LSP, Alvin has hired a new lawyer and is showing him around. The new lawyer, Larry Flood is very cheerful( very un-LSP like! ). There are hints of Jesse at one point he says, "Outstanding!" *LOL*. He is introduced to Nick who could care less about the new guy, unfazed Larry carries on nothing can ruin his day! Alvin tells Larry is to be trained by James. Nick retreats into his nook at LSP to find Burton sitting by the window, proceeds to tell him that Shannon's father wants her back and asks upon Nick to help him out. Burton leaves, Alvin comes in to make a joke about having to borrow Nick's cell phone. Nick doesn't get it. Alvin reminds him of a an emergency shelter hearing the next day regarding Talliek. Someone reported Talliek's girlfriend selling drugs. Nick gets an idea heads over to James' office asks him what else he should know before seeing Talliek again. James pretends he doesn;t know anything. Minutes later, a cop drops in asks James about Talliek dropping by the police precint claiming that James beat him. James tries his best to shrug it off but is clearly shaken by it. Nick's second therapy session: the therapist is disappointed that Nick didn't properly answer the questions. The therapist doesn't know what to do so he asks him to keep on reading the book. Nick leaves.

On the way to Talliek's custody hearing, he runs in Lulu who's returned back from the interview. It's very awkward. They act like nothing happened. They try to make a little small talk---not a really meaningfull conversation, just to kinda avoid the silent awkwardness. He's happy to see her. She I dunno(I didn't really like the expression on her face.). He asks her how the interview went she says it was okay and goes on to make comparisons between SF ad Pitts. He then continuers to ask her out Friday evening at the symphony with Burton and Shannon. She agrees and invites him to her place later on that night.
At Talliek's hearing, Judge Damsen decides that neither Talliek or the girlfriend are fit parents so she places the child in a shelter. The girlfriend, clearly upset charges towards TAlliek is stopped by Nick yells for the baliff. Nick leaves as soon as this decision is made final.
Outside, Alvin is waiting for the outcome. When Nick tells him. He is upset that Nick couldn't do more. Nick warns James not to stay away from Talliek b/c he's just making thing worse.
James goes to Talliek's house to confront him and is confused as to why Talliek would tell the police. Talliek is angry and tells James to stay away from him.
Nick goes onto Shannon's custody hearing, Shannon's father tries to influence her into staying with him by giving him a necklace with a picture of him and her. Judge decides that Burton is the better choice and decides in his favour. Still Shannon's father is relentless and wants to see his daughter even offering to babysit for free, so does Shannon and asks Burton if she could see him sometimes.
Later that night, Nick and Lulu are in bed not really saying much until Nick blurts out that she'll get the job. Lulu said she won't. Nick insists she will and asks her if she'd take it. She starts mumbling about a job in LA that Nick might be interested in, without any hesitation he says he hates LA and that he can't leave Pitts. Lulu thinks its because of his probation and tells him that he could leave after his probation is over. Nick insists that he can't. she then tells him that she heard that he threw his cell phone in court the other day and asks him why he did that. He says that it was in the middle of an outburst Lulu thinks this all amusing which frustrates Nick who gets up to get dressed.

The next day, Burton and the new defence lawyer of the firm are having a meeting and is interrupted by Gretchen to tell Burton that Shannon didn't make it to school. He ends the meeting to make phone calls and go home to wait for Shannon
Shannon finally arrives, dropped off by her father. Burton threatens the father. Burton barges in Shannon's room. You don;t see anything but hear Shannon yelling at Burton to leave. Burton trying to be a father figure begins to ground her and closes the door to leave Shannon alone. At the end he is guilt-ridden and blurts out "I love you"--very unsentimental but hey, he said it.
Burton is back at the office in the middle of a partner's meeting. The police barge in to ask for him. Burton is dumbfounded but in the next scene finds himself being interrogated by the police for inappropriate sexual behaviour towards Shannon. Burton clealy upset asks for Shannon but cannot be told where she is. Burton wants to defend himself but both Nick and Mr. Defence Lawyer order him to not say anymore.
Lori goes in to see Shannon at the Shelter. Shannon tells her the time when Burton walked into her room while she was undressed. She won;t let Burton see her but lets her father see her.
Nick, Burton, and defense lawyer talk about the procedure Burton has to go through: polygraph, psychological testing etc.
Later that night at the incline. Burton is alone drinking by the bar. Nick walks in and tells him to just pay Shannon's father off. Burton thinks its ridiculous and leaves
Nick heads off to Lulu's house who's been drinking quite a lot. She tries to get him to bed but Nick has had a busy day and begins to tell her about it. She then blurts out that she got the job an hour ago and between drink tells him that he's "off the hook". Nick is hurt.
Burton in the meanwhile has met up with Shannon's father to pay him off. Dialogue between the two is muffled but you see visually that the exchange has taken place. Burton has paid him off.
Next day, defence lawyer has good news: shannon's father has dropped the charges just like that. Nick knows what his father did and asks him when they are alone how much he paid. Burton pretends not to have done anything.

Final therapy session---Nick is completely silent. There's is still 30 minutes left. The therapist is fed up and tell Nick that it's okay, that he'll sign his sheet to put him out of his misery. NIck uses this against him and tells him that him that its nice to know that he takes his job seriously. therapist then asks that if that's his way of telling him that he's ready to talk....Nick doesn;t say anyting. Therapists takes that as his answer and tells him his diagnoses: he's shutdown. he can't even write down his feelings on a simple worksheet...his guess is its because of his fear of communicating emotionally with the people in his life---He should try and let his feeling out and see where it takes him...the sessin ends with nick walking out. Lori drops by the shelter to talk to Shannon again. They talk a bit about the investigation. SHe has decided she wants to be with her father. Lori said that it might not be so easy. Shannnon, unfazed insists that this is what she wants. Lori then goes next door to tell burton who's been waiting to take her home. Again, no dialogue here, the visual speaks for itself. Burton is heartbroken. Nick walks into Lulu office. He asks her if she's told the Berkley that she's taking the job. She says not yet. Asks her again if she's taking the job she says yes. He tell her don't go coz he thinks that they have something and that if she goes..she cuts him off and asks him what he means he begins to tell her he has feelings for her. Lulu wanting him to be specific asks him what feelings he mumbles and stumbles with an, "I love you". Lulu is touched but thinks that he only said that because of the job. Nick is dejected and tells to forget what he just said and tries to walk out not before Lulu tells him that she's glad he said what he said but doesn't know how to respond to it. Nick leaves LSP The day ends, and everyone at LSP heads for the elevator. James and Larry try to catch the elevators but it's too full they wait for the next one. There's a very funny exchange between James and Larry but ends when the elevators open to reveal TAlliek pulling out a gun and shoots Larry in the head. James is the shot in the stomach/chest. James still alive just as the phone rings. He is unable to answer. Finally, Nick and Burton are in the car on the way to the symphony--'date-less'. In an underground parking lot they try to find a spot. They find one but one is beaten out by a blue car. Burton is furious and gets out of his car. Nick tries to stop him but Burton won't hear it. A fight starts out between the guy and Burton. Nick soon joins. The next few seconds are disturbing. Nick and Burton together trying to let out some steam start pounding on the guy. Once they realize what they've done, like two thugs hop back into Burton's car, this time Nick's driving they get out of the underground parking lot. They stop in the middle of the road where Talliek is running down the street and past a staring Nick. Bloody knuckles and all, Nick drives on while Burton, hands shaking tries to smoke his cigarette. 'till next season ya'll ... It was indeed all the rage....very fitting for such an episode. No one aint' scoring browny points on this one!!!

Ditto pattycake!! Thanks for the nuanced and detailed spoilers. It is much appreciated. I'm still reeling here. While the edge hasn't been completely obliterated, it has been taken off quite a bit - thanks again!
bye folks.

Poor Nick. He finally, finally, finally says the "L" word -- and it doesn't exactly meet with the response he'd expected. I don't blame Lulu at all for her reaction. Very realistic, given the two personalities involved.
DH is sooooo good at this.

Hurt children in disguiseLast night was a real painful experience for me. So much pain and you can’ t do nothing about it! I know it’s just a tv show, but I’m so moved by what happened I can’t stop thinking about it. Last time I was moved like that was when I saw Hable con ella, Almodovar’s latest film. LuLu and Nick made me think of children in disguise. Two hurt children, with rejection and abandonment issues. Unable to reach out for each other. Nick, the 11 years old boy in a suit, trying his best to express his feelings. And when he tries, it doesn’t work out. He looked like a child who had followed the wise adult’s advice ( the shrink told him :" You should try and let your feeling out and see where it takes you") I thought he would go back to the shrink to tell him : " I told you it wouldn’t work. It never does " ! And for LuLu, I think her rejection’s issues are even worse. Last night, she pushed Nick away, testing him to the point where she could say : " "I knew he didn’t really love me". Their scenes together were terribly painful to watch, especially the one in the bedroom and the one where she told Nick he was off the hook. Father and son : I am not very much involved with the father and son’s difficult relationship, but last night, there were great moments. I particularly liked Nick when he spoke to the judge on behalf of his father, quite nicely. And we learned- if we didn’t know already - from whom Nick got the no speaking gene! James : what can I say? I didn’t expect it, I was shocked and yelled when it happened. The scene where James and Taleek (?) were together in front of a tv set was speaking volume about poverty, misery and loneliness. The therapy sessions : those three short moments were anthology pieces! The staring, the obvious but silent antagonism, the written answers Nick gave the shrink and Nick’s hurt look when he listened to the 345$ (plus 30 $ for the book…) advice! The acting was absolutely perfect. It was funny at first and poignant in the end. TV can’t get better than that! What else can I say except I don’t understand why CBS gives this show so little attention. I didn’t know morons could run a national network! The Guardian should be set as an example of intelligent television , where the writing, the acting, the filming concur all together to give us great moments. OK now, I feel better, I can go back to work.

Pattycake, thank you for the excellent recap. In a few minutes I'll be watching the show and I'll enjoyit so much more because of your summary.
Burton is an idiot.
CBS is a packof fools. I am writing to Les Moonves about the change to Saturday night, but I doubt it will have any effect, other than letting me vent. (I won't use a single word I culdn't address to a Mother Superior, but my displeasure will be very much in evidence.)
Thank you again.

Let this be a lesson to you kiddies. Don't go around saying "outstanding" unless you seriously want to get shot in the head.
As for Lulu - arhhhh - the girl is a goose. He acts like he loves her, but she gets all cut up because he hasn't said it. Then when he says it, she suddenly realises she doesn't know how to respond. Will that girl EVER work out what it is she is feeling? Oh well, at least she is consistent. She couldn't work out what she was feeling for Brian until after she married him.
James - another goose.
Nick, will realise the assailant was Taleik (whathisface) but can't tell the cops because he was himself leaving the scene of a felony. Could I say here and now that I am very disappointed with both him and Burton? Both geese.
<hands on hips, frowns and shakes head, more in sorrow than in anger>

Nor for LuLu: I´m more with Lambertoise there, but she is acting quite childish.... I have a song for nickandLuLu (I dont know the words...this is what I sing....Garfunkel can be saying many different things!...) I bruise you , you bruise me, we both bruise too easily too easily to let it show. I love you and that´s all I know. All my plans falling through all my plans depend on you depend on you to help them grow I love you and that´s all I know (............................................?) endings always come too fast they come too fast and they pass so slow I love you and that´s all I know. I love you and that´s all I know. ............... even when I know I´m gonna be heartbroken after this ep. I´ll be anxiously waiting for the tape to come!....... Lambertoise....great post!....it was your post that brought me that song....

I was shocked near the end when Burton started kicking the guy. I was yelling "You idiots, what are you two trying to prove??!!!!" :bash:

You said it Spunky so I don't have to. Lulu is REALLY beginning to bug me.
The "rage" was disturbing to say the least, especially with respect to the Fallins, repressed yes, but that randomly violent I'm not so sure.
I was disappointed in James as well but I hope he lives for season 3.
