... "Where have all the people gone".... ;D Okay, so unless all the members of this board have resigned or gone fishing, I wonder why nobody has even mentioned the EMMY'S yet!! I went over the whole list of all the nominees - which is a mile long - and could find, indeed, only one nomination for "The Guardian" drama. It's called "Outstanding Guest Actress In Drama Series", and the winner is....taadaa.... ...Farrah Fawcett as Mary Gressler! Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Farrah Fawcett, she was quite cute many moons ago in the tv series "Charlie's Angels", and did some movies following, but what really irks me is that there couldn't be found any other actor or actress in the show to nominate,....or the show itself for that matter!! There's always been heavy promoting for "24" and its star Kiefer Sutherland, but the show is more popular in Europe than in the USA...and yet, the show got six nominations.....go figure! Well, there's not much we can do, but one wonders that if there was a little more promoting for "The Guardian" if things would be different. Also, why could they not have a cute promo of the show, something like what channel 10 did, in Australia? Further, I think that David Hollander has strayed too far from the original plot, as presented in the first season! So, aside from the people that really like the Nick - LuLu plot (which has consumed a big chunk of season 2) it might be that the overall interest in the show is waning! Not me, though, I love the show and Nick Fallin, but I could do without Miss LuLu! There are so many fantastic performers in the show, and of great caliber, whom easely could demand more screen time or an Emmy nomination! I love "The Guardian" and Nick Fallin... ...and how it started.....and the stories were great and different from other shows on tv ( 7 days a week) - but then season 2 came along ......and everything changed! I cross my fingers for season 3 and hope David Hollander will return to the original plot of "The Guardian", because it is good tv and good drama.....and maybe the show will get a nod for the EMMY'S in 2004. So, unless everyone is gone........

Bakergirl, No one posts here anymore. They are all at simonbaker and NickandLulu. Happy posting!
As for the Emmy's....I too am still fuming. At the Golden Globes Kieger Sutherland was nominated and won!!! BUT, The Guardian won out on most viewers. Go figure!! They didn't even get a nomination. And everyone wondered why Simon, a presenter, dressed like SH_ _!!! Is it any wonder he showed up at all. How discouraging for Simon and the other regular actors on the show to not win any recognition for their efforts! How very sad. I wish someone with good writing skills would volunteer to write a letter from fans expressing our heartfelt sadness at their not being nominated. Then, some encouraging words of appreciation for a job well done. Everyone who wants to sign this letter should post their desire to have their name attached. Post the name you want the author to use. Also, if there is anything you think should be added to the letter or special phases you wish to be considered, please post along with your name request. Maybe, all requests shopuld be in by July 28th. This way the letter could be posted by July 30th--Simon's birthday. It should be addressed to the regular actors by name, DH, and then general address to cast, crew, writers, directors, and producers. I will volunteer my e-mail address in the heading in case of a response.
So are there any writers out there willing to do this job?
Does anyone think it is a good idea or should we just post our own letter to The Guardian?
Wish I could post this at the other boards but for some reason my posts won't go through even though I signed up as soon as they came out. Maybe moderators of these boards could assist me. Thanks.

Thanks. fourbeccaone Hi fourbeccaone! What I usually do if I want to post the same message to another board is, I just c/p it. Sometimes, I post spoilers and c/p it on different boards. Hope that made sense.

Hi, girls! I like 4becca1 idea, and I´m ready to sign that letter! ....but I´m not sure if SB cares about awards....he is soooo loose, and has that beach air that makes me wonder about it.... Anyway, FF being the only one nominated it´s almost insultant (imo). Not that she is not good (she is....sort of standard...) but there are so many terrific actors in the show!....Yes, Jenn...Rita Moreno is a goddess....you can take your eyes out of her when she is in sight... I imagine TG is not taken seriously by the critics because it´s not taken seriously by TPTB at CBS.... Bakergirl, I´m watching first season (yes, again...yesterday we saw Solidarity....the only good thing is that Shelter is closer!), and jevees and me we were talking about both seasons: the first one was indeed darker, deeper and sadder....but for us, who never happened to see the second, every episode we got it´s good and enjoyable. Maybe the first year was a surprise, and the second looked flat, but to me, down here, southward, balcony-country on a corner by the sea, everything is as excited as the first year: I enjoy the interactions between Nick and the rest ( I watched Neighborhood today and just loved it, even when it´s sort of.....coincidently coincidental? )...., love to see how he was grown up in some ways and it´s the same in other, .....love the nick and lulu story and want to see more.....I guess it´s a perspective thing, too: being a luluphile, I carefully watched Kim (I liked her a lot), the way Nick talks to her....I dont know, everything is new and good. This is sort of messy. I´ll come back lately!....

Cecilia, Your post was good. I too liked season one especially, but probably because it was all new--learning each character, what made them tick, the angst was always lingering in every episode, particilarily between Nick and Daddy. BUT, I also liked season two. Nick matured somewhat, still introverted but was conversing more with associates. I think this made the stories more feasible, after all Nick was 33 years old and needed to be less of a little boy image. He was beginning to show that he was responsible for his actions and his choices in life, couldn't continue to blame others(in particular his father). I do believe there are many issues still unsolved and untouched in season two--especially his mother/father issues and many father/son issues. One day they too will come crashing down on him. A lot was pumped up in the Nick romance theme. Lulu at first on the back burner festering, still causing excitement, but then calming into a friendship, and finally into a lustful passion--ending the season with a love relationship-to be or not to be. Kim and Nick was an interlude tingling our senses and exciting our fantacies. But it was just that --an interlude--giving us another side of the Nick psyche to inspect. I do believe season three will leave us with yet another saga in the life of Nick Fallin--parts of which we will grow to love or hate--but always inspiring us to write chapters of unanswered questions, thoughts intertwined with ideas for new story lines, analyzing each character with a fine toothed comb, scenes, frame by frame, transcripts, word by word ... Our fun has just begun. Thank you DH. fourbeccaone

Bakergirl, sorry if you are not enjoying the N/LL story because to me that is the main reason why I so enjoy the show and I hope I get to see more of that fabulous couple........... Jennifer,.....At first I did indeed enjoy the Nick/LuLu story, and the growing tension between them, and I watched the whole developement in huge anticipation! Then "Shelter" was screened, and I loved it.....my heart stood still with that kiss! Thereafter; things changed, the story became too *not sure where to go* style, and LuLu got on my nerves! It's not LuLu's fault; more so DH, who does not seem to be sure about the whole plot IMHO! Meanwhile, while figuring out where to go with the Nick and LuLu story, DH should give LuLu some rest and have her focus on her own life [including problems] for a while. That's why I hope that season - 3 will be returning to "The Guardian" and Nick Fallen again, and not so much Nick Fallen and LuLu. LuLu doesn't have to leave the show, but she doesn't need the podium all the time either! As you all mentioned, there are so many questions to be answered about so many things that have happened in the last season....that could all probably fill-up season - 3......and then we need another season......;D

I´ll sign the letter too, I think our sun god deserves a little more recognition from the Emmys and other awards.... I really love this show, I watched 24 last year but I found it boring.... so I guess everyone has different tastes but you all agree that TG is not boring at all.... ;D(at least in all the scenes that Nick is involved so 40 of the 45 minutes of the show are great) About the seasons.... I liked the first one very much but I really enjoyed the rollercoaster of the second as well, maybe it is because i have to wait a lot for the second season and it was a personal achivement to get the tapes(thanks Ceci, Nikki and lutile) also the second one has a lot of different things however the shannon thing takes a lot of time and I was truly disapointed about that story line..... The third season is much closer..... god.... I miss my beautiful Nick Fallin.... Yes I need to get a life!!!!!!

Perhaps the characters in "The Guardian" are too complex, too ambiguous to sit well with the Emmy people. It often seems as if they like their characters clear cut. Some of the issues our characters are grappling with are so deep that they can't be solved neatly in the space of one season. Nick and Lulu's relationship, and Nick and Burton's relationship both contain elements which your mainstream viewer would find challenging, so the show is not as widely watched as it should be.

Maybe you are right doon, I find the characters very real in a emotional level(you don`t see that every day on TV at least here in Argentina), I think in a lot of ways is not a very comun show, love what DH has done with it!!! TOO BAD IS NOT SO WELL APPRECIATED, IT IS A GREAT SHOW...FOOLS

The fact that the characters are so real is almost frustrating at times. I can't count the times when I've actually spoken to the screen urging Nick to speak or Burton - "Just say it. Say what you mean. Say sorry if you need to" Whatever they need to say, they behave like real people who don't communicate as easily as simplistic shows and movies would have us believe. The best communicator on TG is Laurie, who is warm and direct, approving or disapproving as her feelings prompt her. Thanks for your thoughts jevees.

Hi, doon!
I feel the way you do many times!....and that´s why I like Lulu, I guess. A lot of times I find myself saying: "ugh, no, pleeeez, don´t say that....he wont understand!"....you know, I feel like I´ve already been there....or a friend has; but it´s real to me!

I agree too, doon. Laurie is the only one at ease communicating. Father and Son both need councelling, possibly joint.
Alvin still has his own personal demons to get under control. He is not a good sponsor for Nick. They annoy each other. Also after seeing Alvin's method of finding placement for former LSP clients by flipping a coin, he is off my list. Can't believe he was so insensitive. Hope none of my children or their parents see how the system works -- especially those who live in Pittsburgh. This was risky showing this side of LSP. Very hurtful.
Lulu also needs some councelling. With the recent divorce, Brian's infidelities with hookers, feelings of unwantedness at LSP, and apprehension and uncertaainty with Nick, she needs help adjusting and communicating her fears and anxieties.

I love reading everyone's comments. I've lurked here for a while. Alvin's character fascinates me, but he's the only one of whom the writers are not consistent in their portrayal. He does things that just don't seem to fit with other things, and I know that human beings are inconsistent, but I think it's just that to give every character as much time as they deserved would keep stories moving too slowly. I often wonder where Alvin's relationship with Laurie went after he was caught with the prostitute. That whole conflict just wasn't explored fully enough. However, I wouldn't want too much screen time taken from the lovely Simon Baker.
