Greetings to all..... I've also been lurking for a while, and finally decided to sign up on this lovely message board. ;D
Here's my 2 cents to add to the discussion: I think the Nick & Burton characters are solid and painfully realistic, but other than that, the rest of the characters just don't do it for me. Alvin and Laurie, to me, are side characters that are so underdeveloped and inconsistent, that I see them merely as a distraction from the rest of the action. I wish they wouldn't even have their own subplots. The only other character that works for me is Jake.
And.....am I the only one who finds the LuLu character 'empty'?? I thought character had potential at first, but now she just doesn't do a thing for me. Nick could just as well have fallen for a brick wall. I also think she's become slightly cliched and somewhat boring. To be quite honest, any interest I might at one time have had in the Nick-LuLu thing, has gradually gone down the drain.
Now don't get me wrong. I still love this show, somewhat.....which is why I'm so darn critical of every last aspect!

Hi, Alex!....welcome!
Lulu´s character has been discussed a lot, not only here but at every tg site!...I agree she shows many inconsistencies, but imo she is there to provoke Nick, make him react, suffer, smile or lust:thud:...I dont find Burton or Jake as developed characters either. I liked Alvin and Jake in the beginning, but lately I´m puzzled: the coffee machine and the inability of Jake to date someone are so absurd, that I even find them hard to watch! I´ve been watching "the divide" (I´m in and from S.America, in case you wonder where did I get such an impossible English!) this week, again, and even when Jake makes a big mistake at F&as. he has a family, a background, a nice way to relate to Barb...what happened to this guy?...and Alvin tries to help Nick, becomes his NA sponsor...when did he forget it?. I forgive them when I remember this is a tvshow and in fourty minutes writers manage to develop one, two or three plots (sometimes too many) and introducing new characters would be too messy: so, imo, they make the old ones do "inconsistent" things in order to give Nick opponent, partners, lovers, friends, enemies. I dont understand why Lulu looks so indifferent at the court house, or doesnt want to tell him anything else at her house (in ATR) but if she doesnt act this way, which is the justification of Nick´s behavior? We discussed, also, Shannon and her father, and how they allowed her to come back to Burton; I think the right thing would´ve been to make her stay at the shelter and have a therapist talk to her and find out how she felt about her father, Burton, Jeremy´s assault and her mourning. But again, Burton wouldnt have an excuse for the beating up.
I like the Nick and Lulu´s love story, and have been following it for almost two years so I wont believe that, after telling her he loves her Nick is going to turn to another woman; but I guess DH and I have different opinions about almost everything!....In fact I think that when he makes Lulu act like a regular thirty something woman it´s almost a causality: young women in tg are usually lame, cliched and boring. But as doon says, developing every character would take time from Nick, and I want him to be in the screen as long as possible, so I dont complain!. Keep posting, sharing pov is what makes those boards so worthy!
(Alex, not everybody here is a Lulu-phile...in fact, bakergirl says at the beginning of this thread that she is not really interested in this plot)

Hi Alexriley....Welcome to the board I agree with you and Ceci, I also live in South america and of course I saw the divide on Sunday and it is true that comparing the first with the second season, some characters have lost their way... I mean... Alvin became a Coffee machine obsesive, Laurie nearly appeared in the lasts episodes, Burton was so bad in the last episode with the Shannon thing that he looked like a child who was losing a new toy or a candy.... and Jake....well actually I think he needs to get a life!! ;D I love Nick and LuLu together but all the misundertandings at the end were too much, between as I don´t know how Nick could said I LOVE YOU, , I´m still in shock, of course LuLu´s answer was worst...the i don´t know what to respond thing was like a joke, so I hope TG will go back to their origins, you know the father and son relationship, Nick´s angst, Nick loneless, Nick the lawyer, nick , Nick, Nick...OK,I´m back!! GOD I MISS THE SUNGOD!!

Hi and welcome! I love your description of the LuLu character! You might have already noticed that she inspires lots of strong emotions. I'm with you in that I started out being interested in her and I really enjoyed the sexual tension between LuLu and Nick -- not so much because I liked LuLu but just because I loved watching Nick in love...could have been Laurie he was in love with and I wouldn't have cared.
By the time the sexual tension came to a peak and Nick and LuLu became an item, she started to irritate me more than ever. I don't think it's the fault of the actress; I think her character hasn't been written to be particularly sympathetic. And the character itself is wildly inconsistent, IMO.
Anyway, it sounds like DH is going to put the Nick/LuLu thing on a backburner for a little while. That's good. Hopefully, her absence will make my heart grow fonder!!

To be quite honest, any interest I might at one time have had in the Nick-LuLu thing, has gradually gone down the drain. Welcome Alex Glad you decided to post. Though we don't share the same opinion of LuLu, your post is appreciated. I like the characted of LuLu, mainly because I've been a fan of Wendy Moniz since her daytime gig in the CBS soap, Guiding Light. Thanks to her, I've discovered Simon Baker, because I didn't know who he was when I first heard of TG. I sympathized with LuLu. She is as troubled as Nick, complicated and I love the fact that she is not perfect. I've come to accept that her purpose on the show is show Nick's soft side. He loves her and it was nice to watch him say that outloud in "All the Rage". Though, LuLu didn't say the "L' word back, I believe that she will. It is obvious that DH, et all have plans for them. It may not be in forefront in the beginning of the season, according to DH, but it was implied that they will eventually address their complicated relationship. Oh yes, the more complicated, the better. JMHO. I am so looking forward to more Nick and LuLu scenes. They are the reason why I watch the show.

Total, what does "backburner" mean?....I cant find that in my dictionary! Anyway, as Jenn, I find truly appealing the Nick and LuLu plot and scenes, and I´d have a hard time swallowing Nick and another woman, after he told her he loved her. This would be asuming that Nick would get involved with someone new...DH is talented and I´m willing to be surprised and see Nick being back in his original track! (I dont see which are the guarantees that if some new girl shows up she is going to be any more mature or grounded than LuLu, unless DH had added to his team a good female-characters writer.) I know tgland has rules imposible to understand for me, but if this happens I would like to have an explanation on this waste of time. I love Nick and love to see him in love (and angry, and sad, and mad, and sleepy, and hungry, and thirsty, and bored, and...,and...any Nick is good ) but which would be the point to make us believe he is in love if he is going to change his mind that fast?...was he just trying to make LuLu stay? I hope next season the N/L romance wont be forefront because Nick is going to be solving other issues, like his relationship with Burton and his addiction, and even bonding with Jake or James. And then, after she had time to think and he had time to lick his wounds, they´d be together. (I´m sorry total:eventhough I´m your slave, I do like LuLu and this plot!... ) I want to believe Nick is in love true love, and not that he was just trying to win another case!

Jake is the only character I really hate. I don't understand what we're meant to feel for him.
There's no doubt in my mind that Nick really loves Lulu. I'm so boring that I'd just like to see them together, and to have things run smoothly for them, but that's not the stuff of TV, sadly.

Total, what does "backburner" mean?....I cant find that in my dictionary! Cecilia, this is not Total, but backburner means that the Nick and LuLu storyline will be put on hold for a little while, perhaps later in the season to give way or address other potential plot. My guess is that it will resume in the third episode. Btw, did you see the picture of our girl in wireimage.com? She did attend that event afterall. We just saw Simon and Alan R in there. She looks good and a bit darker.

Cecilia, you crack me up, as always!
It's okay. I don't hate LuLu. I'm just tired of her...I'm hoping Nick seeks a little revenge next season for the way she responded to the "L" word. I understand why she said what she said (I think) and I expect that eventually she'll say the "L" word back. But I hope we get to watch Nick making her suffer first....because that will be fun to watch and, given the way to characters act together, it would make sense.
Certainly, it's the type of thing that would happen in real life.....missed cues, bad timing etc.

Total, that´s right!....but does DH know this is the way things go in real life? If making Lulu suffers comes along with that CUTE mischievious expression he has in WIMTY at the incline, I´m for the suffering, indeed. In fact, suffering or making suffer the object of his affection has given (imo) the most lovable and enjoyable to watch Nick!...Happy Nick isnt as cute as upset-jealous-sad-mad-ticked-angry-dismissive-rude-baffled-angst Nick:thud::thud::thud: Besides, they have to re-create the sexual tension betweenN/L, and I remember how they light up when arguing...:sex: Total, that would be fun to watch!:evillaugh:
Jenn, Wendy looks beautiful in this pics!....some suntan (Berkeley´s sun?), nice outfit (I love her sandals)....where was Frank?...her hubby is cute enough to give Simon some competition (Simon, not Nick)...just kidding!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone. I think Jake is sleazy and annoying in a cute innocent sort of way(if that makes any sense at all). I like him. OMG....just love the emoticons on this board. I said this before .... JAKE NEEDS A LIFE!! ;D I love this board too, it`s so so fun to write and explain your thoughts with this emotions faces(I love this one ), they are all so good... By the way I read some comments about WM character, LuLu, and I like her as Jennifer and Ceci, but I agree that lately she is been quite annoying and I can`t understand her. IMO the writers should make their minds up with her and honestly I think WM is just doing her best to do well this changing and contradictory character.... Yes I like her...well... except by the line.." I don`t know how to respond" after the Nick`s love word,(I still can`t believe she said that) I really got angry with her and I would have if I have been there...

... "Where have all the people gone".... Okay, so unless all the members of this board have resigned or gone fishing, I wonder why nobody has even mentioned the EMMY'S yet!! Hey, guys ! Summer is vacation time . That's where we are. Now, I'm back home and what do I learn? No Emmy's nomination for Simon Baker but one for Farah Fawcett???!!! It's a joke, isn't it? No, it is not. And I don't blame the scripts for this, but the lack of interest by CBS. But you already know what I think about the morons who happen to manage CBS... Anyway, I'm happy to see a few of you have kept the flame. And I am now getting ready for the next season...Until then, I'll enjoy reading the summer postings from everybody.
