Nick the son, Nick the father to be, Nick the lawyer, Nick the watcher, Nick the brother, Nick watching over everyone… I couldn’t have enough. After last week’s fast, what a feast! And isn’t the guy really paying his amends now?
I never felt much involved with Nick’s angst toward his father, but the Burton/Nick relationship had this promise of love, family ties stronger than rancour. The old Burton, shaken by Shannon's rejection, finally got to discover that he has a son, a great son. It was a long journey. Will it help them to take a few more steps toward each other? Looking at Nick helping his father with this mess, I kept hearing the beautiful music, Song for my father composed by Horace Silver.
Violet. A great color, a wonderful character and a survivor. Again, Nick did the right thing, calling the police and getting social services involved. How could he not? All this knowledge about her mother’s clients, the habit to make herself scarce when needed… A sad, poignant story. The Crayola box with all the colors of the world was a rainbow in the midst of this grim part of the episode.
Did Nick really have to watch the teenager the pornographer sold him? I don’t know, but I felt his disgust and his pain from having to do this. And Shannon caught by love words like so many teenagers around the world. Roy’s change of mind arrived too late, IMO, so it was difficult to feel anything else than relief that we won’t see him again.
I don’t think suspense is TG teams of writers’s strength ( last year, they tried that with The Innocent, and that wasn’t great), but last night attempt gave us the opportunity to feel for these young girls trapped by pornographers who think about nothing except the cash they make exploiting their credulity and need for love.
Nick might have saved Shannon, but he won’t get to become a brother… even if he acted as the Big brother last night. This chapter in Fallin's life is probably closing…<br>
Little things make the difference. Lulu is right. I felt relieved that she received – but not really accepted - Nick’s gift, a very very big thing, with grace and understanding. She wants the house with him. Their kiss was another beautiful light in the night.
Did I like The watchers? You bet!
