I've read the article, Sandra, and there's a lot of it with which I disagree. It's unfair to say Simon neve liked to do interviews or talk shows and no one I know of is castigating Craig T. Nelson or David Morse for not promoting The District and Hack, two other CBS shows that were axed. If the CBS/Sony publiists weren't working at it, Simon would never have been on any talk shows at all, so I don't think he cam be accused of "failing to promote the show" as Rob Owen does.
CBS admitted it does its shows for advertisers, not the viewers, and since most advertisers have bubblegum mentalities, it's not surprising they thought TG was too dark. The same cretins probably thought Season 2 was too light. The fact is, TG told a story that had viewers asking "What happens next?" the crtierion of a good story. It drew me in and hooked me, but I'll admit it took awhile. There again, since most advertisers or their agencies have the attention span of a gnat and think viewers do, too, it's also not surprising they weren't capable of following the plot complexities and the fact that the characters didn't remian static, but grew and developed from episode to episode and season to season.
I'm not about to dismiss Owen out of hand. I thought some of his criticisms were quite valid, although the problems seemed to me correctable and deserving of a fourth season to bring about thier resolution. However, I'm surpprised and disappointed in Owen for jusy following the party line as he seems to be doing in this article. I thought he had a much more independent, objective viewpoint.

Actually, Mr. Owen is probably right in his analysis but I still believe CBs is making the wrong choice. The famous 18-49 years old demographic – a so silly conception- might be the advertisers’ first target, but they should also know that the youngest don’t watch TV as they used to. They get their entertainment much more from the Internet than TV. Also, CBS might want to keep the 18-49 but then why the numerous golf tournaments? Golf is male entertainment for older guys. But who buys and spends the family money in households if not the women – often golf’s widows as we call them here- who are sometimes older than 49?
CBS was winning almost every week the first place on Tuesday night. So why spoil the opportunity? On the contrary, they should have targeted more intelligently their viewers and advertisers would have been happy to get the customers.
Now they’re trying an obviously silly show. Even a show targeting the young viewers will make the advertisers go away if viewers aren’t there to watch…<br>

ITA, lamber.
I never understood if they really believe people in their early twenties watch as much tv as older. And of course, who says they have money to spend? Is not what happens around me!
I mean, if they were saying the target is people in their thirties, I could buy it. But they have such a wide range of people that makes me wonder if they actually know who their target are.
I stick to my belief (ve) that Simon never thought he´d stay too long in this show. Even if he is grateful to the chance, the character and th money, he has always said he likes movies (and apparently indie movies).
Linda, I dont think Owen is not being independent; I guess he is just being cautious: he works with these people, and if there´s another show we happen to like, we´ll like him to give us the scoop, and not being a showbiz outcast because he went against CBS. It´s over, and I dont think people involved are as worried or upset as we are!
I would´ve loved to have one, two, three....a lot more seasons to come, but again, I dont think Simon would do it. And as much as I love the plots and Alvin, without him there´s no much of a show.
Lamber, Linda...what about the fics?
;D

Re the fics, Cez, I'm worng on a couple. For the past few weeks I've been too busy posting on the boards and fantasizing about what I'd like to do to some people at CBS. I've got to get myself under control.
