Outside the Frick Building Nick approaches the building, Styrofoam cup of coffee in hand, as Jake approaches from the other direction. They meet as they’re about to go in. Neither knows why they’re here so early, just that Burton has called them in.
Inside, they meet with Burton who explains that he needs them to take over the American Hydrant merger for him. He has to be out of the office for personal reasons for a day, and he needs them to cover for him. The guys agree.

As Burton leaves the conference room, Nick follows him out and asks what’s up. Burton explains that he has to have laser surgery like he had last year but on his left eye this time, for glaucoma. Nick asks if Burton needs a ride, but Burton says no, he’s arranged a car.

North Castle School for Boys, kitchen Levi is washing dishes, another kid is working at the stove making oatmeal and goofing off. Levi tells him to cut it out, they have to get these dishes finished by a certain time or they’ll be written up (or something like that). The other kid comes over, notes they’re out of washing up liquid, and says he’ll go get some more. Levi says fine, but don’t take too long. The kid leaves.
A group of guys, all in hoods, come in and start attacking Levi. In the commotion, a rag falls on the lit burner of the stove and catches fire. As the thugs flee, one of the calls after them “You get beat in, you get beat out.” The fire spreads across the stove.

North Castle School for Boys, the director’s office James and Levi are meeting with the director, who is trying to get Levi to tell him who the assailants were. The watch a security video which shows the attack happening. The school has an honor code which requires any student who knows of a crime committed to tell what they know to the administration. Levi refuses. The director warns that if Levi doesn’t tell he could get kicked out and sent to “juvi.” Levi still refuses.
*Note: Levi was transferred from the Schuman Center where he was first sent to North Castle. He has one month before he is due to be released. By refusing to tell, he is going to be sent back to Juvenile Hall until he is 21.

LSP Nick is in the common area pouring a cup of coffee. Alvin helps an elderly gentleman into his office. He explains to Nick that the man is Sparky Waters, a famous Pittsburgh baseball pitcher from the sixties. Nick says it was before his time and he hasn’t heard of him. Alvin tells Nick he needs a little help on this case for Waters as it is dealing with a contract.
As this is going on, James walks in. He comes over and explains to Nick what has happened with Levi. He wants Nick to help him. Before Nick can say anything, his phone rings and he has to leave. Alvin asks James to please let him take care of this, and James agrees.

The eye hospital There were some slight complications with Burton’s surgery. There has been some bleeding in the eye, and Burton will need to stay home and rest for a few days. He’ll need to put drops in his eye three times a day and try to rest at a 45 degree angle as much as possible to prevent further complications.
Nick assures the doctor that he’ll take care of his father. As they get ready to leave, Burton tells Nick that he can stay in his old room. Nick quickly replies “No, I’m not staying in my old room. You can stay with me.”
Nick’s house Nick gets Burton settled in. He gets Burton comfy on the couch in the living room (same living room, but I think it’s a different couch, the other one was grey and modern, this is tan and overstuffed) with his head at a 45 degree angle. Burton leans forward to flick ash into something sitting on the coffee table. Nick jumps forward to get him an ash tray, and Burton apologizes.

Burton asks Nick if he has a radio. Nick says sure, and goes over to turn the stereo on. He asks if his father wants to listen to NPR? Burton says “That Socialist crap?” and rattles off the dial number and call letters of a country station. You can tell Nick is pleased as punch over this! As Nick turns around from adjusting the radio, he sees Burton has propped his feet up on the coffee table. Nick rushes over, puts a cushion under Burton’s feet explaining “That’s kind of expensive, you know?”

Nick explains that if Burton wants, he can stay home and take care of him. Burton says no, and reminds him about the merger. As he goes to leave, Nick asks if there is anything he can bring back for Burton. Burton asks for more cigarettes. Nick says he’ll pick him up two packs, but Burton says to get a whole carton. He also wants a large regular coffee, not one of those things Nick drinks. When Nick asks where he’s supposed to get that, Burton barks that he can get it at a gas station.

LSP Alvin, (who has gone to see the director of North Castle, who happens to be an old friend of his), has to explain to James that he can’t help Levi. This angers James, who goes to Nick and asks him to help him with Levi’s court hearing. Nick makes it clear he’ll only handle the case if it counts towards his community service. Lulu okays this, and Nick takes the case.
They go to court, and essentially the judge says Levi must work things out at North Castle and that he must either tell who attacked him or face the consequences.
On their way out, Nick and James talk to the director of North Castle and propose a deal. Essentially, Levi will go to another school outside the city to get him away from the gangs. (I’m not sure if this is in return for telling who did it or not.) The director agrees.
That night, James and Levi talk about it as James sees Levi to the van which will transport him to the other school.

Nick’s house Nick comes home to find Burton in the kitchen “trying to make coffee.” Nick explains that he doesn’t have a grinder, so he’ll have to go out and get some coffee for Burton. Burton is in a testy mood and is fussing because he “needs smokes.”
Nick says, “But I bought you two packs yesterday.” Burton growls back that he told Nick to get a carton.
Nick asks if Burton has used the eye drops as he’s supposed to. Burton says that he tried. Nick gets the drops out of the fridge and notices that the seal hasn’t been broken yet. He makes Burton let him put the drops in. While this is happening, Burton complains that “It’s too damn quiet around here” and wants to know “what ever happened to that dog?”
“Bart?” Nick asks. He explains that he found a home for Bart with a family in Washington County who have a farm. Burton grumbles that Nick should have kept Bart for the company.
Nick, exasperated, says he’s “going to get your dinner,” to which Burton churlishly adds “and a carton of smokes.” Nick says he’ll get the dinner, the smokes, and some coffee. Then Nick Walks Out.
