Does anyone know what has happened to Barbara L. (Rusty S. played her)?
I really enjoyed her interaction with NF and her ability to hold her own in the office. Barbara's relationship with Jake was fun to watch ?
Hope she returns to the show - it just seems to miss her personality.

I really enjoyed her interaction with NF and her ability to hold her own in the office. I agree quilter, she could be really funny, and there was indeed something special between her and Nick's interaction. She might be back, I hope so. Sometimes I think that if David Hollander doesn't watch out, the show will turn into one of those regular "soapies". I think the storyline tends to drift off too much to other problems and little bitty romances etc. The show should be more about"The Guardian's Nick Fallin and the cases he works on, etc.. That's why the show is named "The Guardian" isn't? Not to say that I love to watch his love life and his grief, and really feel for him, but I also think that the story should be more around legal services, the court, Nick Fallin, and the ones that work with him in the field. It should be less about Burton's love life, or Alvin's or Jake's, or Lulu and Brian's for that matter. It should be less about Burton's personal problems, about James' or Alvin's. So many times time is spent on all different people around Nick Fallin and their problems, but not Nick Fallin and the court! I very much like Laurie too, and in my opinion we don't see enough of her either. And....she's good, with Nick Fallin and her participation in various cases. Nick is beautiful with children, and he shines in the courtroom! In the early years of the other show: "The Practice", it was great. Good cases and a lot of good acting, but lately there is almost every week a problem with one of the associates that needs some assistance etc.etc. The concept is gone, and it's a opera with always the same problems that one, or the other, falls upon. Maybe not all of you agree on this take, but I sure would like to know what you think. I just don't want "The Guardian" to become a soap opera, and so does Simon Baker;......his own words!!!! ;D

Totally off the subject but I saw Rusty S in "The Perfect Storm" on video the other night. I get all excited and say "Hey look its Barbara" - my husband is saying "what are you on about, woman!" LOL

I agree with spunkmungbeans. There is too much emphasis on romantic interludes between Burton and Mary, James and client, Alvin and Laurie (also prostitute), Jake and Barbara, Lulu and Brian--did I miss anyone? Moving from love interest couple to another. Sound like a soap opera? If it was on at 2:00, it would blend in with the networks' common theme. Think about it. Does this seem feasible? Realistic?
I hope DH takes another look and refocuses. I hope he doesn't lose Simon's interest in the character or program.

If DH makes this show into a "soap opera" I for one will think hkard before watching it. It seems to me any relationship begween Burton and Mary should be in learning how to have second chances with their "families".
The various characters in the show do need to be seen as human and perhaps just a hint that they do have a natural life - relationships, homes, work, careers, and outside activities, but only hints.
NF is very good at being a lawyer and each child he represents does "rub" off on him whether negatively or positively. There needs to be more involvement between NF and "community service" and perhaps not just one child at a time. What is wrong with some "cases" taking more than a week to handle. Rather enjoyed the reaction and problems between three episodes that involved Hunter Reed.
Wonder what would happen if NF became a real guardian and would have to balance the real responsibilities of raising, say an 8 year old with loss of hearing that was left an orphan of some good friends? That would introduce another variable into his busy life and add more conflict and "adventure" as he could not just shut her out of his life at 5:00 pm.
The romance between Lulu and Nick is fun to watch, but keep the mystery there and just give hints.
These are my ideas. Do not know if anyone else agress but everyone's opinion adds to the mystery and workings of "TG".
