F&F, conference room Jake is meeting with the representatives of the company and with Murray, discussing the terms of the merchandising agreement. They’re offering $10 thousand now, and 2% of all revenue after costs are recouped. Murray agrees, but with stipulations: • No red or orange t-shirts, as the red and orange sun logo behind the word won’t show up well on those colors • #2 pencils only • hats are okay, but not the kind with snaps in the back • no key chains (some people don’t have any keys) • and no sales on Monday
Jake tells him that they can agree to no red or orange shirts, but other than that they cannot agree to his terms. Murray relents and the agreement is signed.

F&F, lobby Alvin and Riddle have come back to see Burton. Riddle tries to get Burton to persuade his clients not to contest the will. He refuses, telling her that this is a family matter (the kids think she was just after the old man’s money).

F&F, Burton’s office Burton tells Nick that he got the ring from the bank. He tells Nick that it’s almost a carat, which seemed a lot bigger back in 1965. Nick just looks at it, then looks at Burton and says that that’s okay, it’s beautiful. Burton tries to tell Nick how much he loved Anne and how he wanted to spend his life with her, but he let her go. He tells Nick “But I know you’ll do better.” (the camera moves back and forth from a close-up of Nick to a close-up of Burton) Burton finishes by saying “I love you son.” To which Nick replies, making eye contact with his father, “I love you too Dad.”
LSP Suzanne has found a shelter which will take HIV+ kids. Unfortunately, there are no other children there, but this is the only way she has found to keep the kids together. Just then Lulu pokes her head in to say that a couple named Lakey are there to see Nick.

It turns out that Mr. Lakey used to work with Mr. Wheat, and that Micah Wheat called his old friend the day before and told him about what happened. They have prayed together, and now the couple wanted to open their home to both children. Suzanne reminds them of the health problems Etta could face, but they still want to do it.

Men’s athletic club Lulu shows up, this time with two shopping bags of condoms. When she talks to the guy at reception, he points out that the health inspector she sent around found everything to be okay. When Lulu asks about leaving the condoms, he shows her to a small dark closet and tells her she can leave them there. Inside the closet are box upon box of condoms.

The Incline Lulu has met Jake again and unburdens herself to him on this issue, telling him she’s not sure she wants to bring a baby into a world like this.

LSP Nick is headed out, on his way home. Suzanne gets off the elevator as he approaches it. He explains that he has to get home, but she wants to fill him in quickly on the Lakey’s home visit. She said everything checked out perfectly, except Mr. Lakey refuses to get a blood test.

Nick’s house, kitchen/breakfast room Lulu is already home, sitting at the kitchen table. Nick comes in, they chat. Lulu asks him if he thinks they’ll really have to wear masks at the masquerade ball. Then she asks if he’s hungry, saying there’s half a sandwich in the refrigerator if he is.
Nick doesn’t say a word, just walks over to the table, leans over, and kisses Lulu passionately. When they come up for air, he slides the black ring box across the table to her.

Bedroom Nick is standing at the foot of the bed, one hand resting on the rail, as Lulu sits cross-legged in the middle of the bed. Lulu is clearly upset with him, saying “We have a much bigger decision before us than getting married. I don’t want to get married just because I’m pregnant.”
Nick looks at her coolly and replies “I don’t care if you want to marry me. But I know I’m ready to be a father.”
F&F Jake meets with his clients again, but this time he has bad news. Although he checked all US records for a copyright on the symbol and slogan, he failed to check Japan. And it happens that there is a saki company in Japan which uses that logo on their bottles, and they are now threatening a federal lawsuit if they go forward with their plan to market the merchandise. The clients are furious as they’ve already printed the logo on everything.
Park Jake has gone to tell Murray the news. Murray doesn’t seem over-surprised. He points out that he was in Japan, after all, and probably saw the logo there. Jake is flummoxed that he didn’t know Murray had been in Japan.
