308 Believe
Outside, a park, pouring rain As the scene widens, we see that there was supposed to be a charity AIDS walk, but the rain has caused it to be cancelled. The organizer sits there in shock, as helpers rush around trying to get things loaded back up to keep them dry. Alvin walks up to her, places his raincoat around her, and sits down beside her.

Evening, Nick and Lulu are walking companionably down the street, each carrying a paper bag of groceries. Lulu is telling Nick about something that happened to her years ago on her birthday, when suddenly she blurts out “I’m pregnant.”

Nick is shocked by this announcement, but Lulu hands him her bag, fishes in her purse, and pulls out the result sticks from the two home pregnancy tests she took. The two stand beneath a street lamp and Lulu explains the results to him.

Nick’s house Nick and Lulu are in the kitchen discussing the news, the bags of groceries on the counter near them. Nick asks Lulu if having a baby right now is what she wants. Lulu looks him in the eye and replies “Do you want to be a father?”<br>

LSP, conference room Alvin is telling everyone about an article in the paper about a homeless man who has been going around painting the slogan “Believe” on buildings all over town. Then Alvin introduces ?? Riddle, the organizer of the AIDs walk. She’s the director of an organization to help AIDs patients, and since their big fund raiser was canceled, she’s now got to come up with a way to raise money. The clinic is working with her on a couple of issues, and she invites all of them to a masquerade ball the next Saturday, at no cost to them, asking them to invite their friends to raise money.

He doesn't, Spunky. In classic television style, this is where they cut for the opening credits! ;D

LSP, Nick’s office Lulu pops in, tells Nick she’s made an appointment at a clinic for 8 am the next day. Nick seems a bit worried at first to hear she’s going to a clinic (he’s thinking abortion clinic, perhaps?), but says he really wants to be there.

After Lulu leaves, Suzanne shows up at his office with two children, Marcus and Etta Wheat. After she introduces them (both adorable, Nick is all smiles at them), she tells the kids to go out and play in the area where she showed them for a few minutes. Once they’re gone, she explains to Nick that their mother died from AIDs three days ago, and that while she was alive, she refused to have them tested. Suzanne explains that she wants to go to Judge Damsen’s chambers and see about having a medical guardian appointed so that she can have the kids tested. Nick asks if it mightn’t be easier to place them in foster care before they’ve been tested, but Suzanne insists, and Nick agrees.

Meanwhile, Lulu is meeting with ?? Riddle, who is explaining to her that one of the problems is that they have contested funding. Her former lover, now deceased, left the Alliance $1 million, but his children are contesting the will. She also tells Lulu that one of the things she needs LSP to do is to arrange with a local “men’s club” (health club and sex club) to allow them to come in twice a week to provide the patrons with condoms and AIDs counseling.
