Courthouse Anne and Nick are in the hallway discussing the situation. Anne’s sister arrives. With shock, Nick recognizes the young Liz. She greets him with recognition, then turns to Anne. She explains to Anne that she’s thought it over, and she’s not going to agree to take Anne’s son. She says that she thinks Anne is doing it to spite her ex-husband, and she doesn’t’ want to go along with it in that manner. After Liz leaves, Anne squares her shoulders and announces that she’ll take her son to his father tonight.
Nick tries to argue, saying it shouldn’t be so abrupt, but she insists, saying that he needs to start getting used to where he’ll be.

Anne’s house Nick is trying to convince Anne not to send her son away that night, but she insists. She’s packing the boy’s things into a duffel bag and Nick argues that the boy should be allowed to say what he wants. Anne is adamant, insisting that she doesn’t want him to watch her wither away with the illness. She is very brusque. Nick asks if she just intends to go over to the school and pick the boy up and take him to his father’s, and she says yes. As she goes down the stairs and heads to the door, she pauses and picks up a photo in a frame, a photo of her with her son, and takes it with her.

Outside, Anne is loading the duffel bag and getting into the car. Nick continues to try to get her to consider her son’s wishes, but she argues that he’s too young to have wishes. Nick, almost tearful, says he does, that he just wants to spend what time he can with her. She refuses to listen, saying the boy is too serious as it is. Nick tries to warn her that the child will change.
Finally, Nick, sobbing, begs her not to go. She embraces him, promising that she’ll still help him. Nick can only sob on her shoulder.

Hospital Alvin is in the waiting room. He stands up as Nick comes into the waiting room, and he asks Nick how he’s doing. Nick shrugs. He asks what they did for Nick, and Nick replies that they held his hand and talked him down.
Alvin points out that Nick is really lucky that they didn’t contact the police. Nick grins, saying that’s because he represents the hospital, or used to. At this Alvin says he contacted both Burton and Lulu, but he told them not to come down, he’d get Nick home.

Clinic Burton goes with Nick to the clinic he suggested. Inside, it’s nothing like in Nick’s hallucination, and after Nick introduces himself to the receptionist (male), he is sent to talk to a counselor (middle-aged black female).
She tells Nick that she doesn’t think he needs to be an inpatient, but that she wants to try 30 days outpatient visits, which would be 4-5 hours a night. Nick says okay. She asks if he thinks he can handle it. She promises that Nick will get all the help he needs here, as long as he’s ready for it.

LSP Nick goes in the next morning. Lulu accosts him as he enters, asking for the form showing that Anita Hendricks finished her rehab. He says he has it, and he’ll take care of it, refusing to give the case over to Lulu. He approaches Hendricks, who demands, “Don’t’ you have something to say to me?” He looks down for a moment, then looks her in the eye and apologizes. They go into his office and sit down.
