321 Blood In, Blood Out
F&F The scene opens where it ended last week, with Nick staring at the names on the door.
At the executive committee meeting (to which Nick is not invited), Jake presents the case against Nick—seniority, reliability, and liability. All of the other partners have been there longer than Nick, but Nick’s name is the one up on the door. All of the others bill more hours and have more clients, and now Nick’s even cost them money in the suit brought by Sandra.

Burton’s office Burton tells Nick that they want to revoke his (Nick’s) partnership. Four of the nine are on Jake’s side. That leaves three for them to convince to side with them. They discuss talking with the remaining three.
Burton tells Nick that he wants him there, that’s why he’s stayed as long as he has. With this, he leaves Nick alone in his office.

LSP Lulu asks Alvin if he will cover for her as director for six weeks during her maternity leave. Alvin finally agrees.
As they are talking, Nick comes in and asks to talk to Lulu, so Alvin leaves. He tells her that he only has 17 hours of community service left. Lulu says they’ll have to reassign any cases he has pending, but it shouldn’t be a problem. Then she offers him the case on Kevin Black, a young man in juvenile detention for raping a girl. The girl got pregnant as a result, and now wants to give the baby up for adoption—Kevin refuses to give up his parental right.
Nick says fine, but this will only take about eight hours (grins at Lulu), and asks for another case, which she gives him.

Manco Center Nick goes to see Kevin Brown. Kevin claims he never raped the girl, that she was his girlfriend at the time. It was only after they were caught together that she claimed he raped her. He says all he wants is to see his baby.

Mental Hospital Nick goes to see Chris, a previous client of his. Chris was sent to boot camp for raping an eight-year old girl, but was kicked out of boot camp (Nick represented him at the time, I don’t remember the episode name). Chris has been at the Manco Center, but the guards there said he was extremely uncooperative—refused to leave his cell, wouldn’t shower, etc., so they sent him for psychological testing. The doctors say he is fine, and want to send him back to Manco. Chris is fighting it. He begs Nick to find him somewhere else, saying that there are two gangs at Manco, and you have to join one of them or be harassed, physically and mentally.

Courtroom Nick is representing Kevin Brown, who doesn’t want his parental rights terminated. The foster parents/potential adopters don’t want Kevin to have any contact with the child whatsoever (it’s only weeks old), but Nick is arguing that Kevin should at least get a chance. Damsen agrees to consider the matter.

Next Nick appears before Damsen representing the boy Chris. He tries to make the case to have Chris removed from Manco. Damsen says that Chris was placed there because of his history (the rape and his problems at boot camp), that it is a facility for the worst juvenile offenders, and that he should remain there.

The Incline Nick meets with Jake. He confronts Jake, saying he had no idea Jake wanted him out of the firm. Jake explains that he and the other partners bill more hours, have more clients, but Nick’s name is on the door and theirs isn’t. As far as they’re all concerned, it shouldn’t be just Falling and Fallin up there. Jake tells Nick that he will be happy to give Nick a glowing review elsewhere, but it’s time for him to move on. He says Nick shouldn’t take it personally, that he still likes Nick. Nick looks grim.

F&F, Burton’s office Nick reports that he doesn’t think the four other partners are going to change their minds. Burton reports that Dulcet is on their side, but as a result he had to give her all of the Bluestone account. They still have to meet with the other two partners.

Manco Center Kevin wants more than anything to see his baby.
Chris is refusing to come out of his cell again. He tells Nick that the black kids are planning to stab him. He says they stab you in the armpit so they puncture your lung. Nick doesn’t believe him, tells him he’ll be eighteen soon, to just stick it out and keep his head down and out of trouble.

F&F lobby Nick tells Burton that Bill Gordon is on their side, but he had to give him half of a large account to seal the deal.
Burton tells Nick that Jake got engaged to Kate Shaw the night before, which is a good move for Jake career-wise, as her father can really help him.

LSP Alvin is meeting with James’ family. He is asking them to sign an affidavit stating that James was opposed to the death penalty. He feels that if they will do this he will be able to get Taliek’s sentence changed to life in prison. James’ sister flatly refuses, telling Alvin not to contact them again unless he is calling to apologize.
Out in the lobby, Alvin tells Nick about it. Nick agrees with Alvin that the death penalty is wrong, so Alvin asks Nick to sign an affidavit stating James felt the same way. Nick refuses, saying he has no idea how James felt about the death penalty.
