Here are my random thoughts upon watching this episode for the first time, just because. Wow, SB's eyelashes! It must be hard keeping his eyes open.Dad made fresh squeezed orange juice and warmed the syrup for the pancakes! I hope Burton did not get ashes in the food! He needs to stop smoking! Second had smoke is bad for Nick.I drove myself crazy trying to see what time it was on NF's watch every time they showed it close enough to see. Nick was mean and snotty to Amanda (I missed early episodes where he was always this way.).Amanda was tall Lori turned out to be a great aly (sp.) for Nick. She's so motherly. I am glad he turns to her for help..).Who posed for the "Susan" photos? How much did she get paid? I would do it for free so SB would look at them. ;D Amanda voiced what everyone in the firm was thinking, about NF coming back after he quit and took clients with him. (Everyone was thinking it...).Jake is Jealous of NF's and BF's relationship. And last but certainly not least, NF laughing at Burton's will-story of the man who thought he was Jesus and wife was Satan, then catching himself when he looked back at the bad client. It was cute. ;D That's all. ;D What did you think?

What can I say....I haven't seen this episode the first time around and now it was pre-empted again. I love the Yankees but there is a limit.

This was one of my favourite episodes, I loved the way Nick handled the whole Wendy situation. It was sad the way in the end though, she just wished Nick hadn't intervened. How she had actually earned her luxurious lifestyle. "It's already happened", and "I've learned to cope with it" she tells Nick. Yea, sure, like cutting yourself is coping with it.
You know, so many of these episode endings leave possibilities for more episodes, wonder if they will return to this one again. The father still being in the house, while Wendy in a shelter could make another episode and Nick did say he would be around for her.
also loved the apology to Louisa and his little joke at the end.

Yes, I was amazed a Burton's domesticity. This is a father who didn't have time to raise his own son and yet he finds time to speeze orange juice! I would never have guessed it.
I have to admit that seeing him smoke while cooking would have turned me off eating the breakfast!
BTW - has it ever struck you as odd that Burton smokes but Nick doesn't? Nick, being the tearaway he was as a teenager, would surely have taken up smoking, especially with a smoker for a father. Considering that he had no scruples about taking codeine, cocaine and who knows what else, I'm surprised he didn't pick up a smoking habit as well.

Jezebel I guess we'll just have to get a Season 1 tape fairy to get ourselves updated, like we did for LFN. I hate not being able to respond intelligently to nice threads like this.
Does anyone have all S1 on tape?
Anyway, I loved the eyelashes, too. I found Nick to be very impatient and short with others on several occasions. This isn't in the first episode, but I like Barbara's character in this series. She strikes a good balance as a cast member, not as a sex symbol, of course, but her role is interesting.
I don't trust Jake as far as I can throw him. He's loyal as long as there's something in it for him.
I'll talk about Lulu later.

I like Nick's watch. Its rather stylish and not like those horrible clunky ostentatious gold things (probably Rolex but who cares?) they usually have TV lawyers wearing.

I don't think Nick was mean to her. He was simply pointing out the fact that who she did pro bono work for was up to Burton to decide. She was carrying on as if Burton was giving Nick preferential treatment by allowing him to get his community service work done! She actually behaved as if Nick had a choice.
And, hello girlie, Nick IS Burton's son. Of course, he is going to be treated differently. Der. Wake up and smell the coffee. At least they can't complain that he is dead wood.
And she wants to be treated like a senior associate when she is barely a year out of law school. Anyone who has worked in law will tell you that a first year lawyer is less value to a firm than a good paralegal. Book learning isn't everything - you have to build up the experience to be any use to anyone. So her little dummy spit about being treated as a 'glorified paralegal' was just totally wrong. I like Burton's comeback, "A first year associate is a glorified paralegal".
And she was sledging Nick, her immediate supervisor, in front of the whole office! Talk about burning your bridges. Did you see the dirty look he gave her when she turned to leave and found him standing right behind him!
What a numbskull - I wasn't sad to see her go after that.

Yes, this was the first indication we got that Jake could be a bit of a snake in the grass. I don't think Nick ever really trusted him after this.

SMB: Because NF is of a younger generation, maybe he stayed away from smoking or took it up and quit after college. People smoke a ton in college.
Also, he might have been to fastidious about the smoke and ashes smelling and staining everything up.
PS I tried to use the quote thing, but haven't figured it out yet...

Since Wendy's mother thanked Nick for "blowing the whistle" I would like to think that she kicked her husband out of the house and brough Wendy home after the investigation and couseling for them both. Sniffle.

Annie, for quotes: In the post message window you will find two rows of buttons after the "Add tags:" caption. Select the second button from the right on the button row. If you leave the cursor over it for a couple of seconds you will see the Tooltip "Insert Quote". After pressing the button you will see that a couple of xml like brackets appear in the composition windows like [.quote.][./quote.] (minus the dots). Place your quote between these two brackets.

Question... why should Jake be jealous of the NF and BF relationship? B and N are father/son (See I have to state the obvious there ) so of course they're going to have a relationship... Why am I so dense sometimes? You don't have to answer the second question  and if you do I'll threaten you with :guns:

He is jealous of Nick because he sees it as threatening his own position in the firm. At least that is how I read it.
