Caffey perks up at this, quite excited about the idea of money. He wants to know how much, but Nick tells him to come by the office the next morning. On the way out, Jake asks, clearly concerned, “He’s sick, huh?”
Nick looks scornful, “He’s high.” When Jake asks if he’ll be better in the morning, Nick replies, “Who knows.”
F&F the next morning Burton enters the lobby on the way to his office. Seeing Caffey sprawled in a chair, Burton turns and heads towards Nick’s office. He meets Nick in the hall, tells him there’s a derelict in the lobby, and to call security. Nick explains that that is one of Jake’s clients. Burton comments that he thought Jake left that sort behind when he became a partner. Nick then explains that this is a referral from LSP, to which Burton replies that they should keep this particular client out of the lobby.

F&F conference room Jake explains the suit to Caffey. They explain that Caffey needs to sign a statement that he doesn’t mind that Nick and Jake work for the same firm. At this, Nick turns to leave. Caffey stops him, saying he wants to be a better man for his daughters, and that he wants to spend some time with them.

LSP We see Caffey, his two daughters, Tom Burke, Laurie, and Nick. Caffey is trying to appear the concerned parent, but he doesn’t even know what grade Kristen is in. Before they leave, he gives each of the girls a brightly colored plastic watch (Andrea’s is pink) he has bought for them, and he gives Tom some money. Tom says the girls need to get to school, and Caffey mentions taking them out for ice cream on Saturday. Tom puts him off, and they leave. Laurie explains to Caffey that visits must be supervised. Caffey is very unhappy at this.

LSP Gregg shows up to see Lulu. He comes into her office, where she tells him she has some forms for him to fill out and explains some of his options. Gregg becomes angry, telling her that she sits there with that big ring on—where’s a picture of her husband? Sweeping stuff off her desk, he comes around, grabs her by the wrists, and yells at her about his wife kicking him out as a result of the court ruling. James, hearing the ruckus, rushes in, pulls Gregg away, and runs him out of the office.

Outside LSP Nick comes running after Lulu who is on the bridge. He wants to know if she’s ok, and why she didn’t call the police about Gregg. She said something about not wanting to call the police on her clients. She then explains that she just came out for some fresh air. Nick, still concerned, offers her his overcoat because of the cold. She seems touched, but refuses, saying something about him being too protective. He tells her that he's not being protective, just concerned, and he came out to see if she needs to talk about what happened.
Lulu replies “Now you want to talk? Every conversation we have ends with you telling me to divorce Brian.”
Nick quickly returns “Divorce who?”
They both smile, and then she assures him she’s going back in in a moment and thanks him for his concern.

F&F Jake is with Caffey. Caffey is overjoyed with the settlement, which is $56,000 after fees. Nick appears, and mentions to Caffey that he should really give part of that money to the Burkes in repayment for what they spent on the funeral. Caffey becomes angry, saying if Burke wants to play father to his kids then he can use his own money to do it and storms out. Nick presents Jake with a document, to which Jake responds, “What’s this?”
Nick replies, “It’s a lien on his settlement.”
Burke’s Apartment Nick explains how if the Burkes will postpone the RTP hearing just a bit longer they can sue Caffey for part of the settlement. But the Burkes just want to be rid of Caffey so they can adopt the girls. Andrea jumps in, telling them they can’t do that, they need the money. The Burkes stand firm, and Andrea runs out of the apartment.

In the hall outside, Nick sees her as he leaves. Andrea tells Nick how they tell her at school that drug addiction is a disease, but she doesn’t believe that. She says cancer is a disease, not drug addiction. Nick agrees.
Nick tells her that her brother’s death isn’t her fault. Andrea looks at him and asks, “What if there is no Heaven and Hell?” She then changes topics and asks if she and Kristen are really nice to their dad and go with him for ice cream, does Nick think he will give them the money? Nick says he doesn’t know.

LSP Gregg shows back up. James tries to run him off, but Gregg is clearly penitent and Lulu agrees to talk to him in her office. James follows closely behind. Gregg apologizes for his behavior and gives Lulu a bouquet (similar to the one Nick had last season) as an apology. He also apologizes for what he said about her husband’s picture. Lulu explains that his wife doesn’t want to work things out and that he needs to sign the divorce papers. He tries to argue, but gives in and signs the papers. As he leaves he tells her that he knows his wife will be back.
