Red Piscarek’s house Burton goes to see Red Piscarek, who isn’t very welcoming at first. After a few seconds, he invites Burton in for a drink. As they are sitting there, they watch some tapes of Evan playing college football. His career was ended when he suffered a broken leg during a game.

Sounds like Burton is starting to feel the weight of his own mortality.

You're right, Spunky.
Heart burn, indigestion, gas, all the same. And besides, this country seems to have a fascination with "gas."

Hospital Nick goes to see Ray Howard, the baby’s father. Ray explains about Lily’s condition, how the insulation around her nerve endings is wearing away. He says it seems cruel to keep her alive like this. He explains to Nick that he loves his daughter and doesn’t want her to die, but it seems cruel to keep resuscitating her, when they should be concentrating on making her as comfortable as possible.

Don't you power your cars with it? Australians use petrol.

The Incline Barbara and Lulu are having lunch. Barbara is telling Lulu about Evan. Lulu asks if it’s true that Barbara used to babysit Evan. Barabara says it is, explaining that he would have been in the 7th grade when she was in the 12th. They ran into each other again a few months ago, and starting seeing each other, and, well, now they’re getting married and expecting a baby. Lulu asks how far along Barbara is, and Barbara replies twelve weeks.

Yes, we refer to automobile fuel as gas! However, we also make rude references (or at least some people do) to flatulence as gas. Especially if beans are concerned.
Beans, beans, Good for your heart The more you eat The more you . . .

After a pause, Barbara asks Lulu to be her maid of honor. They have a quick discussion as to whether it should be maid or matron, and if now that Lulu is getting a divorce does she again become a maid. Anyway, Lulu agrees. At this, Barbara gets a sly grin on her face and tells Lulu “You should bring a date.”

Lulu tries to act innocent, asking “Me? But who?” Barbara grins knowingly at her, telling her she knows who! Blushing and smiling, Lulu admits that ever since Brian left three weeks ago, all she can think about is him.
Barbara, never shy, grins knowingly, and tells Lulu that she knows of this cute B&B type place about ten miles from the wedding reception. She suggests that Lulu book a room and take him there after the wedding.
(Note: They never actually mention Nick’s name, just exchange knowing looks whenever they mention “him.”)

F&F, Burton’s office, next morning Burton calls Nick in. He explains that he went to see Red and that he talked to Evan. He tells Nick that he agrees with Evan on the need for the facility, and that he wants to underwrite it. It will cost ½ a million dollars, but Burton sees it as a “legacy.” He explains that since his heart scare, he’s been thinking about what his legacy will be, and he wants to give this back to the community. He mentions that the ½ mil is a lot, and will cut into Nick’s inheritance, but he wants to do it. Nick doesn’t argue, and looks pleased.
