F&F Nick goes in to see Burton, explaining that he stopped by Burton’s house, but Burton wasn’t home. Burton explains that he had some stuff to catch up on in the office.
Nick explains to Burton what he found out about Evan. Some of the things Evan told them earlier about his military past (graduated from the Naval Academy, served in Kuwait, etc.) are true. However, he wasn’t a war hero, as he claimed. He in fact was medically discharged after having a nervous breakdown. And he’s been married twice, not once, as he told Barbara. Nick talked to both ex-wives, and Evan took a lot of both of their families’ money.

Burton looks thoughtful, and explains how he and Red were in the National Guard together back in the 50s, but how, because Burton’s father was sick and his mother had to stay home and take care of him, Burton was given a hardship exemption. Red, however, was sent to Korea, and came back a very different person.
Nick, after listening, looks Burton in the eye and says “You don’t owe him.”
Burton thinks for a moment, and says “You’re probably right.” He tells Nick that with Barbara and Evan getting married tomorrow, he’ll let it be for now, but he’ll get the check back from Evan on Monday.

What does this mean?
"You know you have really been fortunate in your parents.." or "You spoilt sob wouldn't know a hard days work if it jumped up and punched you in the face"
Just wondering.
He is very dexterous - headlock AND throwing something in his face at the same time!

Before Nick leaves, he asks why Nick searched out all this. Nick says he did for Barbara, and for him (Burton).

Lulu’s car, on the way to the wedding Both are very quiet, until Lulu asks Nick if he’s ok. He turns to her and grins, saying “I’m not used to being a passenger.”
They chat a few minutes, with Nick telling her she looks beautiful. Lulu blushes.

The Church Evan comes in to see Barbara as she’s getting ready. He tells her that when he was in Kuwait he tried to desert, that he just got so scared, he took off. He says that then he was put into a psych hospital.
He also tells her he’s been married twice, once before he went to Kuwait, and once in Atlanta. Both times there were money problems between his brides’ families and him. Both girls had wealthy fathers, and the fathers gave him money to start businesses. But the businesses failed, and when the money ran out, he left.

Barbara listens quietly to all of this, and then asks why he did it. Evan said it’s because he failed, he was supposed to be a football star and a war hero and everything, he was supposed to be something better.
Barbara looks Evan in the eye and asks him if he loves her. When he says yes, she tells him “This time you will be.”
Out with the congregation, we see Burton helping Red into the church, telling him jokes as they go. We also see Jake sitting in the congregation.

Lulu’s car Lulu and Nick are talking about Lily. Lulu says she handed the case over to Nick because he is so much more distant from these sort of things, that he doesn’t let them get to him.
Nick replies “I may not show my feelings to everyone, but I feel things.”
Lulu doesn’t say anything, just reaches over and places her right hand on his, then they smile at each other.

Grinning, Lulu makes the comment that she’s nervous about all this. She grins at him again, then announces that she got them “a place” for after the wedding. Nick, a bit surprised, asks her about the “place,” and she repeats herself, emphasizing “for after the wedding.”
They exchange a number of knowing glances, and Nick teasingly asked her if she thought to ask for late checkout.

Stopped at a stop sign, they grin at each other again, then Lulu turns her attention back to the road. Starting through the intersection, she is suddenly broad-sided by an SUV. We see Nick’s head hit the side window.

The Church. Barbara is alone again, ready for the wedding to start, when she gets an abdominal cramp (at the same moment as the car crash). Alvin comes in to see if she’s ready, and asks if she’s ok. She says she is, that it’s just nerves. Then she comments that they can’t start until Lulu gets there.

The car Nick comes too after being out for a few seconds. There is some blood on his face, probably from broken glass. He looks at Lulu, who is slumped over the steering wheel (we don’t see her face, but there is blood on what we can see).
The end.

Oh, and in the promos for next week, we see Nick getting the news that Lulu may have brain damage from the doc, we see Caroline talking about who will take care of Lulu after she's gone, and we see an almost tearful Nick at Lulu's bedside telling her that if she's suffering brain damage trying to fight to stay alive, it's ok to let go.

:bawling: they... they... can't do that to us... those evil evil writers! I mean they've finally made Nick and Lulu closer and they even added some Nick and Burton bonding and then they go and bring this car crash into the mix... did I mention that the writers are evil?
Great summary Gine... and now I'm officially worried... they didn't by any chance give any promos of Burton's reaction did they? or are they going to keep me in suspense? *mutters how evil the promos can be*
Got a question: Evan lied about his past and when Nick confronted him started bad mouthing Nick's past... my question is WHY? *poor Nick*
Also I take it everyone is at the church (except poor old Nick and Lulu) by the end of the episode?
:bawling:
