Interesting directorial debut (you can see style and direction) and always that sadness that stays with us. It's The Guardian after all : people suffer, sometimes they smile and when they do (or should I say when he does?) it's almost sunshine. I won't say more. Second night is like a good stew: better than the first time.

Tonight was a great episode. Nick and LuLu had some interaction, the cases were touching (especially since Nick had a hard time choosing the kid to put in the shelter), and Clare, the new girl, could stir up some trouble in the future! Great directional debut Simon! Hope to see many more eppys directed by you in the future! Great job!

F&F, lobby Gretchen brings a cappuccino to an attractive young woman waiting in the lobby. Burton comes out, greets her, then escorts her to the conference room. In the conference room, Nick and Jake are waiting, Jake telling a dirty joke. Jake is embarrassed to be caught telling the joke as Burton introduces Claire Staziack. Burton leaves Claire with Nick and Jake, pointing out as he leaves that Nick is his son (not the one telling the dirty joke!).

Jake asks Claire to tell them about her professional credentials, which she begins to do. After mentioning her clerkship, etc., Nick interrupts to say “You’re hired.” Both Jake and Claire seem surprised, but Jake quickly rushes off to get Clair a cappuccino.
As Nick starts to explain to Claire about the merger she’ll be working on with he and Jake, Gretchen comes in to tell Nick that a call has just come in from the police department, that an officer has shot a suspect over at Al’s Diner. Claire is surprised to hear that F&F is representing the police. Nick explains that they just got the contract. He asks if she’s ever been to a crime scene, and she answers that she’s been to about 30. Nick says he’s been to one or two, and tells her to grab her stuff, and they head out.
Jake returns with the cappuccino to find the conference room empty.

LSP Alvin is showing off the new espresso machine to everyone in the office, explaining how the difference is in how the coffee is packed (whatever!). James comes over to interrupt him, explaining that he has just gotten a call that they are closing the McBride Shelter, and that 17 of the 200 kids currently there were placed there by LSP. They have to find new places for them.

Al’s Diner Nick and Claire show up at the crime scene. As they enter, Nick gets a call from Alvin. He tries to put him off, but in the end tells Claire to stay there, keep the officer who did the shooting away from the media, and he’ll be back in ten minutes.

LSP, Alvin’s office As Nick enters, he tells Alvin that he has only five minutes, and that this had better be important. Alvin introduces a gentleman from the county probation department, and explains that they are questioning his time sheets.

The man explains that the records show that Nick has clocked over 300 hours in the last few months, and that he has never seen anyone with a full-time job be able to clock that many hours. He says that Alvin needs to review all of Nick’s time sheets and get back to him as soon as possible.
After he leaves, Alvin tells Nick about the shelter closing and tells him to meet him there in two hours.

I missed where Claire said she clerked, Spunky. It went by too quickly, and I was trying to catch what Nick said!
