Well, Hales, you're right in that Nick didn't want to talk about things with Burton. As for why Burton was distracted, I think he was ruminating over whether or not to "reward" Colin with a large settlement.

Out in the lobby after the meeting, Nick asks if he can speak to Burton in private. In Burton’s office, Nick informs his father that it wasn’t Colin’s fault that he did drugs, that he could have gotten them anywhere and did. Colin had the best stuff. It’s his problem, he tells Burton, he liked cocaine.

Hospital Doctor is going over final things with Lulu before he releases her. After he leaves, while they are bringing her wheelchair, Lulu tells Nick that she’s thought about it, and she thinks it might be a better idea if her mother stays with her to help out for the moment. LSP Alvin comes by Nick’s closet. He shows Nick the paper where he had written down which kid he thought Nick would recommend for Thompson House. Nick pays the ten dollars that he lost. Alvin then tells Nick that Wendy only lasted 37 minutes at Thompson House before she took off. The police found her in a biker bar drinking. She’s been placed at Metro.
Alvin also says that he’s gone over the time sheets. Nick says yes, he rounded his hours up from the beginning, but so what, as Alvin has reduced it down to drawing straws?

The Incline Nick and Claire are having lunch. Nick explains that they’ll get back to concentrating on the merger tomorrow. Claire finishes her lunch, and noticing that Nick hasn’t touched his salad, asks if he wants it. When he says no, she takes it and begins to eat it.
She tells Nick that it doesn’t matter why Burton pushed his client, because he got a great result.

Eek Davenport should make up his mind or else he's in big trouble!
Don't suppose he regrets any of it?

LSP Nick, Alvin, and the probation officer are in Alvin’s office. Alvin explains that there is a bit of a learning curve for Nick, and therefore it does take him longer to handle cases than it takes the rest of them. He then goes on to say that THEY, LSP, have over-credited Nick by 100 hours. The probation officer looks surprised. When Alvin asks if they will be added back to Nick’s hours to be met, the officer replies yes, but would Alvin prefer it be 200? Alvin says 100 is plenty.

So Nick's hours are only increased by 100? Well there goes my theory down the :flush: . I thought they would use it to entend his time by a few hundred. And Alvin turned down an extra 100? Gee. Maybe he is learning
