LSP Lulu goes to the broom closet to talk to Nick. She tells him that if Fallins has any contract work to farm out, she’s available. He tells her no problem, that they do that all the time.

F&F, Burton’s office Jed Tobin has given Nick and Burton a copy of his business plan. Nick is very enthusiastic, but Burton doesn’t approve. Nick hands over the business plan, and Burton agrees to look it over.
Talk turns to their new client, Caroline Novak. Burton has known her (on a superficial basis) for years. Nick mentions that he was surprised to find out that she is Lulu Archer’s mother. Burton replies that he knows she’s been married three times, the last time to Novak in the 80s, but that he wasn’t aware that she had any children.
As Nick goes to leave, Burton makes the comment that Caroline is something else, and that she’s quite a dancer.

F&F conference room Caroline is explaining to Nick that she doesn’t just want to set up another office for her company, Travelmaster, but wants to move the offices to Pittsburgh.
She then manages to shift the conversation to Lulu, mentioning that she wasn’t aware that Lulu and Brian were selling the house. Knowing that Nick works with Lulu at LSP, she asks if he knows what it is about the legal clinic that draws Lulu to it. When Caroline pushes to find out what sorts of cases Lulu likes best, Nick tells her about a situation where Lulu made the city build a basketball court for wheelchair-bound kids.
Nick changes the topic back to Caroline’s business, asking about her staff. She tells him that she’s starting over, and that in fact she wants Lulu to be her second in command, and asks him to draw up a contract.

Mmmm. Vodka popsicles. Must have been fun growing up in that family.[/quote] Yup, my thoughts too. A common bond between Nick and Lulu - dysfunctional childhoods?

I had gotten that impression too, Skater! However, Lulu is clearly in denial.

F&F conference room Jed Tobin, Nick, Burton, and another gentleman, Frank ?? meet. Burton is proposing Frank as a possible partner in the venture with Jed. Frank talks enthusiastically about Jed’s business plan, then starts talking about how his wife would love this—she’s a big Johnny Mathis fan, and Johnny won’t play Pittsburgh because all their venues are too big, and this would be perfect! Jed blanches at this, but Frank continues, saying how it would be a great place for acts like Steve and Edie, the Platters, but that the big money in this deal would be in beer sales. He then mentions that he used to own the Fish Shack, etc.

Finally, Jed interrupts him, explaining that he doesn’t think this would be a good business partnership. As Frank leaves, Burton sees him out. Jed is left alone with Nick. He explains to Nick that he wants Nick to take over the deal, as Burton is too “old-school” in his ways of doing business, and this is a deal that needs a younger touch.
Unbeknownst to Nick and Jed, Burton has returned, and as he placed his hand on the doorknob of the partially open door, he overhears what Jed says.
