Suddenly Liz bursts into the office. She tells Burton that Jeremy is being released that afternoon but that he’ll be under house arrest until the hearing. And if he’s convicted, he’ll be sentenced to an institution for sex offenders for a year. She wants to know if Burton can’t get Shannon to take it back, as that’s the only reason they’re pursuing this. Shannon, worried, leaves the table and comes toward them. She offers to take it back, but Liz interrupts her, telling Burton that it’s probably Shannon’s fault anyway, look at how she was raised.
Burton tries to diplomatically ease her out of the office, and tries to take her arm. Angry, Liz tells him to get his hands off her, and storms out. Burton looks grim as Shannon stands there forlornly.

Nick’s office Shannon comes in, sits down with her books, comments that “Burton’s being a bummer.” Nick sort of smiles, and looks back at the documents in front of him. She explains that she’s trying to fill out this math assessment for the Thurmond Academy. Nick looks up and asks if she’s going to go to Thurmond. She says Burton wants her to. She explains that at Thurmond everyone her age is in pre-Calc and at her school they’ve just finished long division. She asks Nick if there is much in between the two. Nick looks at her just a wee bit condescendingly, and comments that there is quite a lot between the two. Shannon, trying to look nonchalant, asks him if he’ll do the assessment for her. Nick, not even looking up, answers “No.”

Shannon, trying to introduce the topic nonchalantly, asks Nick if he used to date her mom. Nick pauses and looks up at her, saying “I hardly knew your mom.”
Next Shannon asks if Jeremy is going to jail, explaining that Liz is afraid he is and blames her. Nick tells her not to worry, that Liz is just upset. Shannon thanks him and leaves.

Lobby Jake is now asking Gretchen for color advice for redecorating the cabin. Gretchen, clearly fed up with Jake’s seeming obsession, finally tells him that she was going with him because she thought they were going to hang out together and fish, not because she is going to marry him. She then announces that she just remembered that her mother’s church is having a rummage sale this weekend and that she agreed to watch the cash box. With this, she walks off, leaving Jake standing there with color swatches.
*During this whole bit, Shannon has come out and handed Gretchen a note, asking that she give it to Burton when he gets out of his meeting. Gretchen lays it on the desk.

How does Nick behave with Shannon, is he sweet, rude... or just as usual doens`t care about her...

Bookstore Nick and Lulu are attending a New Age poetry reading. Lulu sits listening politely, while Nick is leaned forward with his arms resting on his knees, looking as if he’s about to leap out of his chair screaming. Suddenly his cell phone rings (the poet gives him a dirty look but keeps going). He answers and says he’ll be right there. He apologizes to Lulu, tells her he’ll call her, and happily makes his escape. Lulu remains listening, a look of disappointment (and boredom?) on her face.

He's a bit distant with her, as he often is with kids when he first meets them. He isn't rude, but he isn't Mr. Sweetie either.

F&F Burton comes out of his office looking for Shannon (it is obviously several hours later). He asks Gretchen if she’s seen her, and Gretchen hands him Shannon’s note. He reads it, angrily asks why Gretchen didn’t give it to him sooner, and dashes out the door.

LOL I can just picture it. And he thought NA meetings were bad. He is probably wishing that someone would stand up and tell how glad they are that God saved them from drugs It would have to be an improvement on what someone experienced with their third eye, embracing the one taste.

Liz’s house Nick shows up. Liz, distraught and panicking, screams that Jeremy has locked himself in the car (with the motor running) and says he’s trying to kill himself. She wants to take him to the hospital, but she can’t do it by herself. Nick runs over to the car, asking Liz if she has spare keys. Somehow he manages to get into the car and restrains Jeremy, telling Liz to drive.

An apartment Burton goes to the location Shannon mentions in the note. When he knocks on the door, it is answered by a blonde (obviously a prostitute friend of Mandy’s). He asks her to send Shannon out. She refuses, he threatens to come in and get her even though he knows it’s against the law to do so. She tells him no, he enters anyway, calls to Shannon, and tells her they’re leaving.

Cabin It’s after dark when Jake arrives at his cabin carrying a bag of groceries and a lantern. He unlocks the door and enters. To his dismay, the cabin is far more derelict than he expected, and is littered with empty beer cans. You can hear the rats scurrying away from the light.
