Allegheny Hospital James goes to the hospital to pick up a copy of his grandmother’s medical records. The hospital offices are besieged with people coming to do the same thing. There is a young woman there, trying to get information about her husband’s files. She has no idea what she needs, and the clerk is being particularly obtuse and unhelpful. The girl is almost in tears and is heading out the door. James stops her, telling her he thinks he can help. He goes up to the clerk, presents his court order requesting his grandmother’s files, and also requests the woman’s husband’s files. The clerk explains what forms he needs to fill out, James takes them, and leads the woman over to fill them out.

LSoP Laurie goes in to Nick asking for his help with a case. She has a young boy who wants to attend an adoption party. He has attended them in the past, but with no success. To make matters worse, after the last one he became so upset and threw such a fit that the man supervising the group shelter where he is placed has said he cannot attend any more. Laurie asks Nick to attend the hearing and try to convince the judge to let him go. Alvin pokes his head in at this point, arguing with Laurie, saying that these adoption parties are cattle calls and that he doesn’t approve.
Laurie replies that this attitude is precisely why she didn’t ask him, and why she is asking Nick to help. Alvin makes a statement that LSoP will not support this, and that if Nick agrees to help, the time will not be credited to his community service. Laurie looks Nick in the eye, and he agrees to help her out.
Laurie thanks him, and heads out the door. We hear her talking to a girl she calls Jenna.

We next see Laurie with the girl Jenna in Lulu’s office. The girl is 6 months pregnant and suffering from toxemia. The shelter where she currently resides is not able to provide for her needs, and Laurie is trying to get her moved to another shelter called the Olive Branch, where they have the facilities to care for Jenna and her baby. The catch is that the Olive Branch is for girls who intend to keep their babies, which Jenna is not enthusiastic to do.

Fallin & Fallin James goes to Nick in his office and tells him that he has picked up copies of his grandmother’s records. Nick calmly tells James that with all that is going on, it might be a good idea for him to take a leave of absence. They talk for a moment longer, clearly at odds, and James making it clear that he wants to possibly pursue a case against the hospital. Nick says “James, I’m not asking you to go,” to which James replies, “But you’re not asking me to stay.” James gets up and walks out of Nick’s office.
P.S. It looks like Nick is back in his same office. At least the picture over the desk is the same. The door is open when James approaches, however. This also looks a bit like the office Lichtman had been in.

Adoption "parties" are bad. This is going to break my heart.

Toxemia! Shouldn't she be on bed rest. (I was borderline toxemic with my first baby - know all about it).

Yes, Annie, that was Alvin's point.
Spunky, she should be on bed rest as well as being monitored, which is why Laurie wants to get her into the Olive Branch.

In the hallway he is met by Jake, who hands him a tub of files, telling him he needs a brief written describing every piece of paper in the files, preferably by the next day. James looks at Jake with a bit of cool disdain, clearly not happy. Just then his phone rings. It’s Drea Westbrook, the young woman he met at the hospital, and to whom he gave his number if she needed any further help with the stuff.

Nick's open door was an over site. He would never have such an important converstaion with the door open.
