Court hall Outside Judge Damsen’s chambers Kyle and both his parents are waiting. Inside, we see the judge, the parents’ respective attorneys, and Nick. Nick goes to the door and asks Kyle to come in. Nick asks Kyle questions as to whether he actually remembers his father hitting him, or if it’s because his mother has told him that. When Kyle is reluctant to answer, Nick confides that when his parents were getting a divorce, his mother said some bad things about his father. He then tells Kyle that his parents are not there, and that he can tell them the truth. Kyle says he can’t remember. Judge Damsen thanks Kyle, and asks him to wait outside.
She then turns to Nick and asks what he thinks. Nick states that there are no hospital records showing that Kyle was ever injured by his father. He also states that when Kyle’s mother was hospitalized, the live-in boyfriend was also hospitalized. Damsen seems to truly want and respect Nick’s opinion.

We see all the players in the hall after the hearing. Judge Damsen has given the parents joint custody of Kyle. The mother is livid, screaming that there is no way she will share custody with that man. Her attorney has to physically hold her back. Nick calmly leaves.

Copeland’s aviary We see city workers dismantling the aviary. Copeland is there, moving around among them, while Burton stands nearby, looking on. Copeland walks to one bird house, opens the front, and removes an urn containing his wife’s ashes.

So what is his point? That the husband has never hurt the child, but that the wife is in a violent relationship - that they beat each other up? (Confused)

Gregg house Nick has gone to see Mrs. Gregg. All that remains for the divorce to be final is for her to turn over the title to Gregg’s car. As she looks for it, Nick asks her a few questions: has Gregg continued to come around, etc. She replies that no, he hasn’t been around in months, in fact, since he went to their offices.

An admission that his mother wasn't really perfect after all? Maybe progress is being made.

The wife showed Nick pictures that she claims show bruises her ex-husband gave her. I think Nick's point is that while the ex may have hit her, it may have been in self-defense. Especially as she seemed to be violent enough that her current boyfriend wound up in the hospital as well.

LSP Kim and Lulu are having lunch at a table at LSP. Kim is filling Lulu in on what she has found thus far about Lulu’s stalker. After Lulu asks Kim a question about Kim’s relationship with Nick, Kim asks Lulu if there was ever anything between she and Nick. Lulu firmly replies no. She then goes on to ask if Nick and Kim are getting serious. Kim says that she doesn’t know, and that seems awkward bringing that up when she’s got a kid. Lulu prods her to ask him, while Kim asks her “Do you think he’ll freak out?”<br>

Nick is working in the broom closet. Alvin comes by to say that he’s been notified that Kyle’s mother is trying to take him and flee the state.

As Nick hurries to his car in the parking garage, Albert Gregg accosts him. Gregg wants to know what is wrong, why he can’t see Mrs. Olsen. Nick tells him to leave Lulu alone and to stay away from her. Gregg is confused, not knowing why he is being told to stay away, when he only wants to thank her.

Court Nick is there representing Lulu, asking that a restraining order be placed on Gregg, prohibiting him from coming near Lulu.
When this is granted, Lulu thanks Nick, who says he has another hearing to get to. Out in the hall, he heads up the stairs. Portensky comes up to Lulu, who is still standing in the hallway. He starts yelling at her, telling her that he did what she said, that he admitted in court that he’s gay, and that the judge granted his parents the right to kick him out. As he’s yelling, Nick comes rushing over, grabs him, and slams him against the wall. Lulu cries out to Nick that this isn’t the guy, and Nick lets him go.
