The Incline Jake arrives early for a lunch meeting with Clay Sims. He tells Sims that despite what happened back in high school, he’s willing to speak up for Sims if Sims will let all that remain in the past. It is clear that Sims considers himself superior to Jake.

When Nick and Burton arrive, Burton mentions that Jake said he and Sims played football together. Sims, laughing, corrects him, telling him that Jake was actually the statistician, not only for the football team, but for the girls basketball team. He goes on to rub it in, asking Jake if he didn’t get a high school letter for being statistician. Jake is not happy with this turn of events.

Lulu’s house Nick and Lulu are in her bed, she lying there with her head on his chest. As they talk, Nick plays with her shoulder, and they twine fingers.
Lulu tells Nick that her divorce from Brian is now final. He doesn’t say anything. She goes on “So here I am. (pause) Here we are.” Nick just says, “Yeah.”
Lulu pauses a few more seconds, then starts to tell Nick about this offer she’s received from Berkeley Legal Services in California. Their director is retiring, and they’ve asked her if she’s interested in interviewing. Nick, absorbing all this silently, finally asks her if she’s going to interview, to which Lulu says, “Yes, it’s a great opportunity.”
LSP, Lulu’s office Lulu, standing by her desk, looks out the window. From the way the building is laid out, when she looks out her window she sees into Alvin’s office. She sees Alvin and James deep in animated conversation.
Going over to Alvin’s office, she overhears the end of a conversation between the two where they are talking about James taking on additional responsibilities. James leaves. Alvin tells Lulu that he’s already talked with the people at Berkeley, and he’s given her a good recommendation. You can tell that Lulu feels a bit uneasy about everything.

Yup, jevees, she just springs it on him like that, in bed. No leading up to it, just sudden, right on the heels of "My divorce is final."

Nick’s closet James brings Nick the psych report on Taleek Allen that Judge Damsen ordered. Pausing on his way out the door, James asks Nick if he’s talked to Alvin. Nick says no, why? James explains that with Lulu going for this interview in California on Friday, Alvin has asked him to take on some additional responsibilities, just in case she takes the job. As of Monday, Nick now reports to James.

I don't think it's his blood, Maybe. I think it bothers LuLu more than it does Nick . . . Nick, as always, keeps a poker face.
